The Borough President’s sponsored Summer Concert Series at Snug Harbor on Thursday evening was the perfect way to cool down on a very humid summer evening. By the time the SI Snugs started their performance, the breezes began and the Beatles Tribute Band—LoveMeDo, prompted the audience to sing along with all those favorite songs we remember from our younger days.

  

The Gillani Homes Charity BBQ was a great success on Friday.  Proceeds from the 50/50 were donated to the March of Dimes.             Staten Island Board of Realtors shared an article from Inman explaining why you should never buy or sell a home without an agent. Having an agent by your side is helpful in many aspects. This is one if the biggest purchases you’ll ever make, so why take risks doing it alone without help?

Not being a realtor, there are many things you don’t know about real estate that you would need to know when buying and selling a home. A good agent helps you with the reality of real estate and what you can get for your money and how much you can get for your house. They can tell you what is worth the buy in your budget and area.

Recently, SILive released an article discussing why and how you should relist your home after it failed to sell. They try to help identify why it didn’t sell and provide tips on how to improve it to help it sell.

One of their tips is to adjust the presentation. Having the right photos and staging will make people want to look at the home. Update your photos to be seasonally appropriate. Having outdated photos might suggest the home has been sitting on the market a while.

Consider some small improvements. Fix up the landscaping or paint. Listen to previous agents looking at the house and ask them what changes you could make.

     Many people are concerned with the price of property taxes. The median property taxes in New York are $4,478. A recent SIlive article states that a Wallethub study ranks New York as the state with the 11th highest property taxes in the country. "New York ranked 41st overall in terms of real-estate taxes, with one of the highest effective real-estate tax rates at 1.58 percent. In terms of the state's median home value ($284,000), the annual property taxes due would be $4,478" said Jill Gonzalez, from Wallethub.

Moving with kids can be difficult, but SILive provided some tips to make it easier on them and you. Before the move, try to get the kids excited about the move. Show them new areas they would like to go in the new neighborhood. Show them the new neighborhood before the move and introduce them these new areas. You can also have them help pack and donate things they don’t need anymore.

Help them say goodbye to their friends. Reassure them that they will be able to stay in touch. Take photos and make a memory book with all of their friends in their favorite places. Did you visit the magnificent, completely hand-made Grotto this week during the 113th Anniversary Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Society?  If not, you still have a chance to enjoy the festivities this Thursday, 7/21 through 7/24 at 7:30 at Virginia Ave. in Rosebank. On Sunday, a magician was entertaining the delighted kiddies.  Enjoy music by DJ Vin D and bands throughout the festival. Following are photos of the Grotto and surrounding altars.

 




Back to the Beach took place on Saturday and Sunday with the sun blazing most of the day but cool breezes made the heat bearable.  Many visitors stopped by at the Gillani Homes booth to say hello and enter the chance to win a Lottery Scratch-Off Ticket House.  See the photos below.
