The College of Staten Island will be hosting their 12th Annual Grace Hillery Breast Cancer Awareness Baseball Game next Tuesday, April 21st, at the Willowbrook campus. The event is named for the mother of Anthony Hillery, who was taken to breast cancer at age 54 when Anthony was a junior at the college. Now a high school baseball coach himself, Anthony has pitched in to keep the event going for twelve years now.
Bethany Watson, co-host of The Elvis Duran Morning Show on Z100, is set to make an appearance for the second year in a row. Watson stated that she jumped at the chance to be a part of the event. Upon tuning into Z100 last year the day after the game, Hillery said he was blown away by the response. "This show goes out beyond New York to a nationally syndicated audience. When I heard them referencing my mother and our game, it knocked me over," he said.
Over the past 11 years, the Grace Hillery Breast Cancer Awareness Night has raised over $50,000 for breast cancer research. Local business have made donations, and raffle prizes have included autographed major league baseball memorabilia.
