South Beach is home to over 8,000 Staten Island residents who used to go out of their way for groceries. Thanks to the new Key Food, that’s changed. The 9,600 square foot supermarket is located on Sand Lane at the former site of an amusement park and arcade. Its convenient location is within walking distance to many residences, a gift for many, including the Senior Citizens of South Beach. Ample parking is provided behind the store and can accommodate up to 45 vehicles. Can’t make it out to shop? No worries, this Key Food location provides free delivery service. The store is part of a New York City Initiative entitled FRESH which aims to provide healthy choices to underserved communities with a fresh selection of fruits and vegetables. Full service bakery, meat, and fish departments are just the beginning of the many options provided.

If you are looking for places to satisfy your additional shopping needs Sand Lane has got you covered. Key Food joins the stretch of shops located on Sand Lane between Olympia Boulevard and Father Capodano Boulevard.  A shopping plaza across the street features Nate’s Pharmacy & Surgical Supplies, one of New York City’s largest full-service independent pharmacies.  Looking for a more specific food shopping option? Polish Delicious, a specialty Polish market provides traditional and authentic Polish cuisine to the community. French Design Nail Salon and South Beach Wines & Liquors are just a few more businesses that round out this newly rejuvenated shopping area.

Key Food has undoubtedly breathed new life into the South Beach area. It has provided a much needed convenience to South Beach residents who will no longer have to make a long trip to the nearest market.  In addition to providing the area with a new place to shop, it has employed three dozen workers, mostly from the neighborhood. The store has also begun partnerships with local schools and churches.  Overall, this addition has been a welcome change to the South Beach, Staten Island community.
