Native Staten Islander Steve Stanulis, a retired NYPD officer with connections in the film and entertainment industry, has recently announced plans to launch the 2016 Staten Island Film Festival.
Due to the success of a film festival he produced in Atlantic City in 2010, Stanulis was inspired to bring the same type of event to his home. During a press conference, the idea received support from the Borough President James Oddo. "Borough Hall is excited and we will try to be as helpful as possible," Oddo said.
Residents may or may not be aware, but Staten Island has been a popular filming location over the past few decades. A film festival here would highlight the more attractive locations of our home, while also bringing more cultural knowledge and appreciation. The location of a potential festival has not been set yet, but favorites include Historic Richmondtown and the St. George Theater.
