There are talks of implementing a new method of transportation between Staten Island and Manhattan in the form of an aerial tram. The Staten Island Economic Development Corporation (SIEDC) has launched a campaign for the tramway, which would cost about $175 million.

Cesar Claro, CEO and President of the SIDEC, has stated that tram systems are safe and cheaper to build and operate than rail systems. "We want to start the conversation with Staten Islanders and the city. This fits in with what's going on in St. George," he said, in reference to the planned NY Wheel and Empire Outlets.

In the SIEDC's initial proposal, it's said that if the tram system was running 24-hour a day, it could move approximately 21,000 people to and from Manhattan. Claro

When shopping at the Empire Outlets, you won't have to worry about lugging your heavy bags around with you or fitting everything into the car for the trip home. The concierge service Bags Inc will be available to ship your bags to your home when you're finished shopping.

The Florida-based company will be available for city residents and tourists alike who wish to have their bags shipped instead of carrying them. Plus, there will even be a "free shipping" perk if you spend a certain dollar amount while shopping. Bags Inc is a growing company, known for their operation at Walt Disney World. The company will have a 12,000 square foot space including a welcome desk and visitor's center at the forthcoming St. George shopping center.

The large office building at 1 Edgewater Plaza in Stapleton recently sold for $21.5 million, marking one of the most expensive real estate transactions this borough has ever seen.

The property is currently home to the Board of Elections and an NYPD precinct, and formerly housed an EZPass center. The purchase was made by NYC developer Stephen Wu. Wu has stated that the building will continue to be used as office space. The developer also stated that he feels it was a secure investment, since the surrounding neighborhoods of Stapleton, Tompkinsville, and St. George are each seeing major developments that will bring new life and business to the area.

Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs has boarded up its shop in the Staten Island Mall food court this week.

But not to worry! This Coney Island-born, neighborhood favorite hot dog joint has other locations within the K-Mart store of Hylan Plaza in New Dorp and a freestanding store on Forest Ave in Mariner's Harbor. Nathan's is also slated to be one of the restaurants to open in the upcoming Empire Outlets center in St. George.

Sometimes when we see a chain restaurant close, we fear the company may be in financial trouble. Such is not the case with Nathan's, which was ranked #22 in the Best Small Companies of 2014, according to Forbes.

Since the city expanded Staten Island Ferry service to operate at half-hour intervals around-the-clock, the Staten Island Railway schedule is also being adjusted to match.

Beginning this fall, the Staten Island Railway will provide trains timed to arrive at the St. George terminal just minutes before every half-hour ferry departure. The MTA is putting an extra $800,000 to make this adjustment, but that's nothing compared to the $4.9 million per year it will take to operate the new ferry schedule.

As many commuters would say, the SIR has not been the most timely mode of transportation in the past. A synchronized train and ferry schedule would be ideal for those of us who venture into the city on a regular basis, and we hope the new schedule will
