Over 23% Thinking of Selling. Why the Hesitation? | Keeping Current Matters

Last month, the National Association of Realtors (NAR) reported that housing inventory was down 4.7% from the same time last year and that the month’s inventory of homes for sale stood at 4.8 - far below the six months necessary for a normal housing market. Why is there such a shortage of inventory?

The recently released Homeowner Sentiment Survey suggests that the American homeowner may not be fully aware of the opportunities that exist in the current real estate market. The survey, conducted by Edelman Berland for HSF Affiliates, also reports that many homeowners would be placing their home up for sale if they were better informed about today’s market.

The Annual Richmond Rockets Scholarship Costume Run is being held on Sunday October 25th, 2015 at Silver Lake Park. 

The run starts at 9 a.m. and spans the length of 5 Kilometers. There's also a one-mile race for all children grades 3-8, as well as a "fun run" for all children under 10. 

There will be raffles, refreshments, and prizes for the best costume!

Sunday, October 25th, at the Greenbelt Conservancy the Audubon Society will be hosting a pumpkin carving workshop. 

Starting at 2 p.m., this workshop will teach you all the ins and outs of carving and decorating the perfect jack-o-lanterns. Choose your favorite pumpkin and get to work!

Ages 8+ are welcome with parental supervision. There's a $7 fee for Greenbelt Conservatory members, and $9 for non-members. The cost includes the pumpkin and the tools will be provided for you as part of the workshop. Register by calling 718-351-3450, or e-mail naturecenter@sigreenbelt.org.

Every weekend throughout October, the Decker Farm will be hosting fun filled activities all day long!

The historic Decker Farm, from the early 1800's, is the place to be every weekend this October! With farmhouse tours, hayrides, cornstalk mazes, arts and crafts, and pumpkin picking, this is definitely a fall-favorite that you don't want to miss!

Hemlock Theatre brings their hilarity to the stage with Silence! The Musical. 

This musical is an unauthorized musical adaptation of "Silence of the Lambs." It's a satire featuring laugh-out-loud comedy as floppy eared lambs narrate the story of Buffalo Bill and Catherine Martin. 

Performances take place from October 22nd through the 25th, and this is definitely going to be a show to remember! The show is playing at Little Shop Studios - 864 Post Avenue, Staten Island. Tickets are available at the door and payments can be made with cash, credit cards, or checks.

This Sunday, October 18th, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Historic Richmond Town & Decker Farms, the village will be hosting it's annual Great American Harvest Festival.

The harvest festival aims to bring everyone back to a simpler time, and will demonstrate how they made old-fashioned American crafts from the 19th century. From cider pressing, candle, furniture, and lace making, to stone carving and tin smithing. You can ride the trolley to Decker Farms to pick and paint pumpkins, travel through a corn maze, take a hayride, and enjoy face painting for the kids!

Admission is $6, or $20 for a family of four.

The Church of St. Andrew in Richmondtown is hosting its annual Fright Night Festival on Friday, October 23rd at 7 p.m.

This year's theme is "Things that go Bump in the Night" and according to their tagline it's time for you to "face your fears!" The Church of St. Andrew is a 300 year old church. Every October for over 15 years, members of the church transform the buildings and grounds into a scary good time! Tickets are available at the church office at 40 Old Mill Road.
