Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis organized/hosted the Staten Island Tax Protest on Saturday attended by over 200 people.  Noting that Staten Island residents are being driven out of their hometown by exorbitant tax increases, the protest also brought up the fact that the formation of a property tax commission by Mayor de Blasio did not include a Staten Islander.  A number of elected officials and candidates were on hand to voice their support for Staten Islanders. As a result, de Blasio announced the next day that Islander Allen Cappelli has been added to the commission.  At least it’s a start!

The 10th Annual Polish Festival organized by St. Stanislaus Kostka Church on Sunday at Snug Harbor was a great success!  The traditional dancing was in full force as well as an ABBA tribute band.  There was even a broadcast of the FIFA World Cup 2018 showcasing Poland vs. Colombia.  The kiddies were kept busy with many bouncey attractions, face painting and so much more.  Below are some pictures of Gillani Homes fans.  Thank you for visiting.

This weekend is your last chance to see The Staten Island Shakesperean Theatre presentation of "The Taming of the Shrew" at Reformed Church on Staten Island, 54 Port Richmond Ave.  One of my favorite Shakesperean plays, the official synopsis states it is set in an urban-yet-pastoral and heavily Italian-influenced universe, maybe not so dissimilar from Staten Island. The rock and roll version explores the seemingly picture perfect relationship between Lucentio and Bianca, and centers on the zany yet volatile courtship of the "shrewish" Katharina (Kate) and the canny Petruchio. Times are 6/29, 6/30 at 8 p.m., 7/1 at 3.  Tickets are $25; $20 for students and seniors.  For info, visit SIShakespeare.org
