Todt Hill - Staten Island, NY

The area of Todt Hill is located near the northeastern shore of Staten Island, bordered by Grant City, Dongan Hills, and Manor Heights. The name may come from the Dutch word for “dead” due to the large cemetery at the southern base of the hill (now Moravian Cemetery). Todt Hill was originally settled by Dutch miners because the land was rich in iron deposits. It is the highest point on the eastern seaboard at 410 feet above sea level. Todt Hill is seen as an elite, private community with many large, mansion-style homes. Like other hills on Staten Island it is mainly residential, meaning there is not much shopping within it. Shops aren't far off because Todt Hill is right off of Richmond Road where you can find plenty of shopping. What makes the area even more exclusive is the fact that it is undisturbed by public transportation. Education options are mostly located in neighboring areas, including P.S. 11, P.S. 54, Petrides School, and Wagner High School.
