Tottenville

Tottenville is the southernmost neighborhood of Staten Island, and additionally of New York City and State. It is surrounded by Charleston, Richmond Valley, and Pleasant Plains. Originally called Bentley Manor after one of its first settlers, the area became known as Tottenville in 1869 after the locally prominent Totten family. The southern part of Tottenville below Hylan Boulevard is known as Tottenville Beach. Alongside the water is also Conference house Park where there is a historical Conference House. Tottenville beach and Conference House Park are two very nice places to visit to get out with the family or some friends. Residents like the area for its quiet comfort, many nearby parks, and quick access to New Jersey. The entire south shore has been upgraded to provide shopping centers and restaurants, like the new Sonic Drive-in and the new Target, to be able to provide people with what they need instead of traveling further to New Jersey. Education options here include P.S. 1, P.S. 6, and I.S. 34, with Tottenville High School having moved to nearby Huguenot. For being the most southern area of New York, there is plenty of access to north of Staten Island, and even surrounding boroughs. The area is served by the local S59 and S78 buses, as well as the X17 and X22 express buses, and a total of three stops on the Staten Island Railway.
