The name Manor Heights comes from Manor Road, which surrounds and runs through the center of the neighborhood. Heights comes from the elevation of the neighborhood. The highest point of Manor Heights is 408.1 feet, which is just shy of 1.7 feet from Todt Hill of South Maine, which is 409.8 feet high. In the winter time, when the trees are bare, you can see a view far into New Jersey.

Manor Heights is hilly and has a low population density. It is greener than other parts of Staten Island. The neighborhood is primarily made up of one- and two-family houses. Half of the homes are detached and a third of the homes are semi-attached. There are two low-income housing units for senior citizens and two small townhouses. The houses are very affordable, starting from $400,000. You can purchase a 2-3 bedroom house at a reasonable price. The neighborhood is just five minutes away from Staten Island Mall and Staten Island Expressway, but it's still a good distance away so you won't be disturbed by the traffic. Manor Road and Bradley Avenue surround Manor Heights, and along the roads are many good places to shop, including drugstores, clothing stores, restaurants, and Waldbaum's supermarket among others. One noteworthy fact is that Staten Island's last brewery was located in Manor Heights. The brewery was known as Manor Brewery, until it was closed down during the prohibition period in the early 1900's. Today, the brewery site is Waldbaum's supermarket.

P.S. 29, I.S. 27 and I.S. 72 are the local schools in the area. Although P.S. 29 is the primary elementary school, there is a choice of two middle schools and two high schools to choose from. There are Susan E. Wagner High School and Roman Catholic St. Rita's School. P.S. 29 offers grades pre-K through fifth grade and St. Rita's school offers pre-K through eighth grade.

One resident who moved into the neighborhood stated, "It's a clean neighborhood with good schools. It's far away enough yet close enough to the Staten Island Expressway, while also being near the Staten Island Zoo and Clove Lakes Park."
