Did you participate in the 'Touch and Feel' Tour of the Colonial Herb Garden at the Historic Conference House and learn about the many fragrant, culinary and health beneficial plants that are easy to grow and use, volunteer to help clean and beautify Westerleigh Park or make a rag doll at the Crafting Cloth Dolls workshop at the Mont Sec House? Did you take the family to one of the Movies Under the Stars? We are so lucky on Staten Island to have so many free events!

Did you register your child for the Zimmer Club’s 2019 Winter Youth, accompany your teen to the Staten Island NAACP 9th Annual HBCU Experience College Fair 2019, enroll in one of the classes at Staten Island MakerSpace or attend the Exhibit Opening of the “Sons and Daughters of Italy: The Fashions and Faces of the Regions of Italy” at the Garibaldi-Meuicci Museum?

Whatever you did, after the extremely low temperatures rose to 29 degrees, did you feel like you were warm again?  I actually wore long-johns to warm these old bones last week--something I haven't done in many years.  It was a relief for a brief moment as we anticipate snow, ice, etc. this week!

Did you, my gentle readers, shovel snow this weekend?  If you live on Staten Island, you probably had all the tools of the trade ready—snow blower, shovels, salt.  All over the country, there were floods, icing, snow storms and chilly, sub-zero weather; even my Southern friends were chilled. I received a number of emails from my gentle readers with good guesses naming the parks/playgrounds I posted two weeks ago. The 1st park: The abandoned remains of a building and chimney in the GreenbeltCredit for photo taken by Diane Darconte while on a hike. (www. Sigreenbelt.org) The 2nd: Allison Pond Park abutting Prospect, N. Randall and Brentwood Avenues in Randall Manor.

The 3rd: Alice Austen House and Museum located at 2 Hylan Blvd.

The 4th: Skyline Park and playground located on the corner of Prospect Ave. and Clyde Pl. and where you can view the Manhattan Skyline.

The 5th: Goodhue Park on the corner of Lafayette and Brighton Avenues.  The nature walk where this photo was taken was led by Clay Wollney and was phenomenal.  I highly recommend getting back to nature and taking a hike.

The 6th: Von Briesen Park overlooks the Narrows and the Verrazano Bridge and is located on Bay St. and North Rd.
