How many of you attended the Pink Carpet Affair Girls Nite Out at the NYC Cypher Arts Building on Saturday?  Did you plan your Italian vegetable garden at Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden on Sunday?  Did you celebrate Fat Tuesday at a local pub or eat pancakes at one of the Staten Island churches on Shrove Tuesday?

I am happy to announce that Spring is on its way, and I look forward to saying “adios” to Winter.  I started my seedling garden in my windowsill with herbs to get a head start this year.  It’s good to get our minds off of boots, heavy coats, long johns and instead think tulips, crocuses (or croci) and warm weather.  How’s that for positive thinking?

Do you know a child between the ages of 5-12 who needs help with his/her…

Another snowy week embraces Staten Island and the Northeast (How many weeks has it been?), and we look for ways to enjoy life and stop kvetching about the weather!  I stopped in to visit my friends at Wicked Stitches at 840 Castleton Ave. in West Brighton during a brutally cold day.

These two charming ladies, Nancy Nix and Carolyn Buckheit, welcome their customers as friends.  Are you looking for a unique anniversary gift? Wicked Stitches should be your first stop.  How about a wedding gift, birthday, bridal party, house warming gift?  You will find it at Wicked Stitches.  They custom embroider every gift.  You will see sweatshirts with neighborhood names embroidered on them.  Who isn’t proud of their neighborhood?  Westerleigh, New Brighton,…

Tottenville's Conference House, also known as Billop Manor, a 300 year old historic Staten Island landmark will bring some theatrical scares this October. The house is the setting for local playwright Joe Simonelli's thriller entitled "The Haunting of Billop House" whos writing was inspired by legends of a haunted Conference House. The four character play, with the house itself serving as the fifth, will be staged in the basement. The story follows a new caretaker who is intrigued by the mysterious connection she feels to the house.

"The Haunting of Billop House," stars, from the left, Travis Hentrich, Summer Moran, Debbie O'Brien, and Jai Sada. The original show, (script by Tottenville playwright Joe Simonelli) plays through Nov. 1 in the Conference…

Community Board 3 has given its support to the design for a new Conference House Pavillion in Tottenville. The orginal structure which was modled in a 1930's victorian style was demlished in 2012. The new structure will look a bit different but will be engineered to last.

The old pavillion, demolished 2012

According to Parks Director Kevin Quinn, the new plans will make use of an open-air design and ampitheater that plays up sunshine and starlight and makes use of the surrounding area's rolling hills and beachfront water views.

The new 4,200 square foot pavillion has been raised 5 feet in keeping with the area's new flood plain elevations. Basins will also be installed to resolve drainage issues and an easily accesable walkway will be paved. The…

New Yorker’s are known as some of the most hardworking people in the world. With our busy schedules and workloads, the last thing we need is a daunting commute.  Luckily, for Staten Islanders, officials have taken notice of our desire for a hassle free trip to and from work every day. The improvements will undoubtedly make getting “From point A to point B” less stressful and more enjoyable. Here is a look at the improvements coming to our borough.

The first improvement comes to a service that we are very well known for, The Staten Island Ferry. Chances are, no matter where you live in the city, you have seen one of the bright orange ferry boats make a trip across the harbor.  According to The Staten Island Advance, starting…

Page Avenue in Tottenville has seen its share of retail growth over the past few years. With shopping plazas featuring everything from hair salons, frozen yogurt joints, upscale restaurants, and even Staten Island’s first drive-thru Starbucks, the area has become a convenience for neighborhood shoppers. Charleston shopping plaza featuring big box stores like Target, Home Depot, Christmas Tree Shops, and Bed Bath & Beyond is just minutes away. Thankfully, shoppers can look forward to even more welcome change with the renovation of “Tottenville Square” shopping plaza located at the corner of Page Avenue and Amboy Road.
