What did you do this week?  Attend Staten Island OutLOUD’s “Pretty Monsters” event and stroll through the Sonic Gates sculpture installation in Stapleton?  Did you clean out your house and MINIMIZE (dirty word in my book!) at the Stop ‘N’ Swap at the Staten Island MakerSpace? Or register for the Fall Sports Program for Seniors?  The opening reception for the “Fractals, Math and Other Forbidding Topics” at the Art on the Terrace was a joy.  Below are some photos from this event.

 

 





Staten Island OutLOUD will host "Pretty Monsters" for Kidz Wednesday, 10/24 at 3 at the Richmondtown Library, 200 Clarke Ave.  This event continues the "Pretty Monsters" series for The Big Read with a special event for very young readers: The Little Read. OutLOUD board member Doris Nielsen (a retired Island teacher) will host this special event of age-appropriate seasonal readings for children. It’s FREE, fun and family-friendly.

For women and girls 12+, attend The Great Big Staten Island Challah Bake on Thursday, 10/25 from 7:30- 9:30 at Young Israel of SI Youth Department at 835 Forest Hill Rd. Join with Jewish women in Staten Island and around the world. Registration is required. Call 718-635-0119 or e-mail statenisland@theshabbosproject.com for registration or info.  Joining the Challah Bake is FREE! However, it does cost money to run. Donations are requested to help defray cost of event.

Lisa  Scherma and Guy Michetti will be performing “Songs We Like To Sing” on Friday, 10/26 at 7:30 at Every Thing Goes Café, 208 Bay St.

Kids 3+ can enjoy the FREE Monster Bash celebration on Saturday, 10/27 from 10-12 at all branches of Michaels. Each kid can create three spooky fun projects–-a mask, ghost treat bag and bracelet. Plus, they can get a small face painting. Kids are invited to come in costume and trick or treat their way through at all Staten Island branches of Target, plus watch an exclusive episode of PAW Patrol at this FREE Trick-or-Treat Event on Saturday from 10-1. There will be exciting giveaways too, so don’t miss out!

The 2nd Annual Howl-o-Ween Fest takes place on Saturday from 10-2 at Clove Lakes Park, 1150 Clove Rd. Sponsored by NYC Parks, Blue Cross, Blue Shield Health Plus and D.A. McMahon, the event features FREE activities and crafts for children, costume contest, resources for parents, safe trick or treating tips, giveaways and treats while supplies last.  All are encouraged to wear a costume.  Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

All are invited to attend Wicked Westerleigh Gathering on Saturday from 11-2 at Westerleigh Park, 160 Neal Dow Ave. featuring a costume parade and contest, candy, music, games, activities, crafts and a family Mummy Wrap contest.  Bring old clothes and make your own scarecrow to take home. 

Halloween Harbor takes place on Saturday from 11-5 at Snug Harbor Cultural Center, 1000 Richmond Terr.  For admission of $8 in advance or $10 at the door, your family will enjoy performances, hauntings, tricks and treats with activities all over campus from Art Lab, the Noble Maritime Collection, Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden, the Staten Island Children’s Museum, and the Staten Island Museum. The CityParks PuppetMobile presents “The Big Good Wolf” at Clove Lakes Park, 1150 Clove Rd. on Saturday from 12-1.  This modern-day fairy tale, starring classic characters from The Three Bears, finds Baby Bear and his friend Goldilocks making it their mission to help change the Big Bad Wolf into good.  FREE and open to the public.

Enjoy Family Halloween at the Tibetan Museum, 338 Lighthouse Ave. on Saturday from 1-4.   Children are invited to make their own Tibetan Masks and jewelry. Costumes optional! Free with regular admission, $6 for adults, $4 for seniors and students.  

Wear a costume to Halloween Walk on Saturday from 3-5 at Clay Pit Ponds Visitors Center, 2351 Veterans Rd. W.  Trick-or-treat on our trails!  Best for ages 5 and up; this program includes a mile hike.

Enjoy a Halloween Campfire on Saturday at 6 at Great Kills Park, Hylan Blvd. & Buffalo St. while National Park Rangers, storytellers, and singers entertain around roaring campfire. Bring a blanket, a flashlight and the family.

The Historic Richmond Town’s Tavern Terrace concerts return with a lineup of themed live performances and autumnal activities with a Halloween Party with The Deep Grass and The Wahoo Skiffle Crazies on Saturday at 6 at 441 Clarke Ave. A traditional fire-pit and fresh apple cider are sure to put you in the fall spirit!  Proceeds from each Saturday performance will help to raise funds for the restoration of the internationally acclaimed acoustic music performance space, the J. Guyon Tavern, just in time for its 200th birthday!

Sponsored by the Victory Boulevard Merchant’s Association, bring your costumes and your family to the Town Center (corner of Westcott Blvd.) for a FREE Trick or Treat on Sunday from 12-3.  Businesses will be giving out treats for Halloween. There will be pumpkin decorating, free drinks and goodies from Victory Blvd. from Manor Rd. to Jewett Ave.

Bring your favorite pooch to Puptoberfest, an animal-friendly Halloween celebration at Killmeyer’s Old Bavaria Inn, 4254 Arthur Kill Rd. on Sunday from 1-6.  There will be DJ music, food and drink specials, live entertainment, activities, baskets, 50/50 and tons of cute dogs in costume, as well as a Halloween contest parade. All proceeds of the event will go towards Fur Friends in Need.

Are you brave enough to take a haunting nighttime hike through Conference House Park on Sunday from 7-8:30?  The Park Rangers will lead you will lead you on this tour through the Tottenville park.  The event is FREE and open to the public.  Call 718-967-3542 or visit nycgovparks.org for more info.
