Did you attend the Property Tax Exemption Event sponsored by Senator Andrew J. Lanza with the New York City Department of Finance on Friday?  The event was efficient with 5 knowledgeable reps and a tech scanning documentation.  I arrived early and was #3 to sign in.  You can always visit Finance’s website at nyc.gov/contactdof if you have questions about real estate taxes, possible exemptions, assessments or market value or call 311 and ask for Finance.  On another issue, I was connected to a rep who navigated me through the nuances of a property I had listed.  You can also visit in person at 66 John St., 3rd Fl. in Manhattan. If you were not able to attend, you have another chance on Thursday (see below).

People ask me, “How can I receive the “Weekend Events” blog.  If you enjoy reading my “Weekend Events on Staten Island” and would like to be my Facebook friend, you know what to do—friend request.  If you would prefer to be on my mailing list, please email joan.coogan@gmail.com or call or text me at 646-258-9696; I will forward it to you each week.  Nevertheless, please do me the honor of SHARING my blog with your friends, either on Facebook (click “Share” underneath the blog) or on the Gillani Homes site.

Everyone loves Google, Siri or Alexis, especially my grandson, Gerard!  You can ask any question, however obscure or inane, and you will receive an answer or it will direct you to online information.  Have you ever wondered what your house looked like in the 1930’s or 40’s?  Bet you can’t get Siri or Alexis to show you, or maybe you can!  On the New York City Municipal Archives site: NYCMA.LUNAIMAGING.com, you can see what your home or any home or building looked like before renovations or razing.  Try it, you might like it! Below is a photo of my 1800’s home circa 1939 still sporting the wrap-around porch, hedges on the front of the property and showing a person in the door way.  I wonder who he/she was?  Would they be surprised that those hedges remained in front for another 40 years until the day a pickup truck jumped the curb through the hedge destroying it and rammed into our porch?  or that the wrap-around porch was removed when a bedroom was added to the house?
