Did you attend the Property Tax Exemption Event sponsored by Councilman Steve Matteo at the JCC on Thursday.  If you disagree with your Notice of Property Value (NOPV) or Assessed Value, you have the right to appeal to the New York City Tax Commission by 3/15/19.  To file an appeal, visit the Tax Commission at www.nyc.gov/html/taxcomm, download TC108 and TC108INS forms and mail in your appeal before 3/15/19.

Did you take your family to Con Edison Family Science Night: Planetary Science at the Greenbelt Nature Center, build a Gingerbread House at the Stapleton Library or make toys at the Staten Island MakerSpace Workshop?  Did you enroll in NYC Parks swimming lessons or celebrate the Winter Solstice at Everything Goes Café?  Did you join the Mud Lane Society in Traditional Holiday Caroling on Friday evening throughout the neighborhood?

Avoid the gift-return crowds and enjoy a Winter Walking Tour of Conference House Park on Wednesday, 12/26 from 1:30–3.  Highlights of the 265-acre waterfront park include the natural forest, historic houses, galleries, and three miles of shoreline. Wear comfortable shoes. Take a moment to create a handmade happy snowman thank you card to show your gratitude for all the wonderful presents you received, or use it to send winter greetings for the new year at the Paper Crafting- Holiday Edition: Snowman Thank You Cards on Wednesday 3:30-5 at the H.H. Biddle House, Conference House Park, 70 Satterlee St.

On Thursday, 12/27, from 10-4, at the Conference House Park Visitor Center in Conference House Park, 298 Satterlee St., follow the journey of members of the Daughters of the American Revolution chapters as they endeavor to save and restore the Conference House for future generations.  Look at the original minutes from 1910 in which they express the idea of saving the Billopp House. Learn about a few of the women involved and the formation of the Conference House Association. Enjoy photos and memorabilia which show the joy of their success.

Winter season is unpredictable, but animals and plants adapt to the changes. Let's find some of these adaptations on a Kids Week: Winter Scavenger Hunt through the trails in the park at the Conference House Park Visitor Center in Satterlee St. and Hylan Blvd. on Thursday at 11–12:30.

On Thursday at 4:30, attend the Family Movie Night at the South Beach Library, 25 Robin Rd. for a showing of “The Chronicles of Narnia” (2005).

Meet in the parking lot in Clove Lakes Park, Clove Rd. and Park Dr. for Kids Week: Campfire Activities on Friday, 12/28 from 11-12:30.  Join the Urban Park Rangers for an afternoon of fun and outdoor activities as you gather around the campfire and enjoy the outdoors.

On Friday from 11-12:30, attend the Holiday Colonial Crafts-Linen Sachets workshop  at the Visitor Center in Conference House Park, Satterlee St. and Hylan Blvd.  In conjunction with the current exhibit of Threads: Flax to Linen, Field to Fabric, you will learn how natural materials have been used by people throughout history, for fabric, fragrance, spices and remedies. Celebrate the clock turning 12:00 with some music, dancing, and stories before the countdown at Toddler Noon Year's Eve on Friday at 11:15 at the West New Brighton Library, 976 Castleton Ave.  Free snacks will be provided and an apple juice toast at Noon!!! Ages 2+, no registration is required.

Spend the day at the South Beach Library, 21-25 Robin Rd. playing games at Game Day on Friday at 2.  The library has Nintendo, Wii and PlayStation 4, video games, board games, and Lego Bricks. All ages are welcome.

Challenge your friends and other kids as you play cool Wii games at the Stapleton Library, 132 Canal St. on Friday at 3:30.  For ages 5-11.

On Friday at 6, Everything Goes Café, 208 Bay Street, will host fabulous tweenager, Lucia Olivia Lalicata, at her Debut EP Release Party. She will be performing with her band, The Right Cliques, and the night will be filled with some very special guests. All proceeds go to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  A $5 suggested donation (per family) can be paid at the door or you can donate on-line at: http://fundraising.stjude.org/lucia.  The first 50 families receive a digital download of Lucia Olivia Lalicata’s Debut EP: “Sunday Night Blues”.

Attend “If Old Bones Could Talk” Meet an Archaeologist on Saturday, 12/29 from 2-3 at Ft. Wadsworth, 210 New York Ave.  Have you ever watched “CSI” or “Cold Case” on TV and dreamed of being an archeologist? Learn from a real archeologist about what an archeologist does. All ages welcome. Afterward stay for a quick craft. Using interactive material: Dig for specimens! Learn the age of a specimen! Check out neat models! Dr. David Klingle has presented programs to children in the UK and the US. He received his Ph.D. from Queens’ College, University of Cambridge and has participated in “digs” around the world. Participate in Open Mic at Everything Goes Café, 208 Bay St. on Saturday from 7-10.  Share your Music, Words, Movies, More! Music: 2 songs, 8 min. max. Open sign up poetry, songs, video, comedy, improvisational story telling, etc. in a supporting attentive environment. All are welcome on stage.  Microphones, PA, amps, projector and screen are available.

Attend the Holiday Festival of Traditions on Saturday, 12/29 and Sunday, 12/30 from 1-4 at the Conference House Park, 7455 Hylan Blvd. This holiday celebration features the Festival of Trees exhibit with a glittering display of decorated evergreen trees and the Menorah representing the Jewish Festival of Lights to commemorate the diverse cultures of our community past and present. Trees are individually decorated to honor the traditions of Poland, Italy, Germany, Hungary, Scandinavia, and Mexico. The exhibit is open on weekends through 1/ 6; weekdays by appointment.

For the younger crowd who can't stay up until midnight, celebrate the new year at Noon Year's Eve Celebration as you count down to noon with stories, activities and other treats. The celebration takes place on Monday, 12/31 at 11 at the Stapleton Library, 132 Canal St.  

If you know or are living with someone who appears to have a substance abuse problem, come to the Parents & Family Substance Abuse Support Group on Monday from 7-8 at Christopher's Reason Recovery Center, 521 Arthur Kill Rd, 3rd fl.  The goal of this group is substance abuse education, referral sources, support family and friends. Hosted by Christopher's Reason.

Do you want to spend a New Year's Eve sober?  You can have a fun without alcohol!  Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2018 Richmond Ave. will host  a New Year's Eve Alkathon on Monday from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m.
