How many of you attended the Pink Carpet Affair Girls Nite Out at the NYC Cypher Arts Building on Saturday?  Did you plan your Italian vegetable garden at Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden on Sunday?  Did you celebrate Fat Tuesday at a local pub or eat pancakes at one of the Staten Island churches on Shrove Tuesday?

I am happy to announce that Spring is on its way, and I look forward to saying “adios” to Winter.  I started my seedling garden in my windowsill with herbs to get a head start this year.  It’s good to get our minds off of boots, heavy coats, long johns and instead think tulips, crocuses (or croci) and warm weather.  How’s that for positive thinking?

Do you know a child between the ages of 5-12 who needs help with his/her homework?  Take them to the St. George Branch of the New York Public Library, 5 Central Ave. on any Thursday at 4 to join the Homework Club.

On Friday, 2/20, bring your toddler to the Tottenville Library at 7430 Amboy Rd. for Toddler Time at 10:30 a.m.  For ages 1 to 3, your child will enjoy being read to and mingling with other tots.  They will sing, dance and participate in arts and crafts.  When I accompany my grandson to Toddler Time, I sometimes wish I was a kid again.  Absolutely no inhibitions are displayed here!  Lots of smiles will warm your heart.  The Port Richmond Library at 75 Bennett Street also has Toddler Time at 10:30 a.m.  There is no reason to plop your child in front of a TV when he can enjoy an hour with new friends, joining in activities that will enlighten.

Take advantage of Open Labs at the St. George Library.  Are you having trouble with your email, curious about Twitter, don’t know how to cut and paste? Need to create a resume? Bring your technology/digital document/digital device questions and get one-on-one assistance--or use lab computers for learning. Fridays at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., Saturdays at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.

Malpeso, attending cardiologist at Staten Island University Hospital, will speak about cardiology and answer questions from participants. The lecture will follow the walk.  Free blood pressures and BMI screenings will also be provided.  Enter the Mall between Red Robin and Applebee’s in the JC Penney wing.

Jean's Fine Wines is a hidden treasure. I would go to all their tastings if I weren't a recovering alcoholic.
