Spring is busting out all over!  Just praying whatever flower blooming this week in my garden doesn’t get covered by a surprise snow storm or a bomb cyclone!  I took a stroll through Snug Harbor and spotted a sad looking turtle on a block of wood hesitating to go into the murky green water of the pond.  Two ducks were hanging out in the water but did not look too alive or excited to be there.

Learn how to do magic tricks with everyday objects that are readily available in your home at A Beginners Course in Magic, presented by Bob Friedhoffer on Wednesday, 3/27 at 4 at the South Beach Library, 21-25 Robin Rd.  Based upon Friedhoffer's book in the library's collection, “The Magic Show”, this course is good for ages 13-18.

Families of all ages are invited to enjoy Storytime followed by an activity and treats presented by Literacy, Inc. on Wednesday at 4:15 at the West New Brighton Library, 976 Castleton Ave.

On Wednesday from 6:30-8, join Councilwoman Debi Rose as she co-hosts at the Staten Island Museum, Bldg. A, 1000 Richmond Terr., a Resource Fair for tenants, homeowners and landlords. The event will include one-on-one information about eviction protection, property tax exemptions, home repair/improvement loans, housing discrimination rules, foreclosure prevention, clearing housing code violations, and much more.

Attend Women Who Make a Difference on Thursday 3/28 at 3:30 at the West New Brighton Library, 976 Castleton Ave. You will follow the struggles of Malala and also see what Madeleine L’Engle, author of “A Wrinkle In Time”, can teach us about writing and movies for children. Good for ages 6+.

Come to the New Dorp Library, 309 New Dorp Ln. and learn about different parts of the world at Around the World Stories & Craft on Thursday at 4. Enjoy stories about different cultures and participate in a craft. Good for ages 3+.

The Staten Island Creative Community at Art on the Terrace, 776 Richmond Terr., presents the Curtis High School Student Art Exhibit for the third year in a row on Thursday from 6–9. Please come out, support the students and enjoy their wonderful work.

Celebrate Women in History Month with Councilwoman Debi Rose on Thursday at 7 at Christ Church, 76 Franklin Ave.  Several women making a difference in our neighborhoods will be honored.  There will be musical performances, inspiring honorees and more!

Visit the Plastics: Pelagic Peril Exhibition on Friday, 3/29 from 10–4 at the Conference House Park Visitor Center in Conference House Park, 298 Satterlee St.  This exhibition focuses on the serious problem of ocean trash that affects the health of people, marine life, and local economies, featuring poignant images of marine life by local artists. On Friday at 8:30, catch the performance of the Staten Island Snugs, consisting of 2 gals and 3 guys playing guitar, bass, flute, keys and drums and singing classic rock, blues, folk and amazing originals, at the Liberty Tavern, 382 Forest Ave.

On Saturday 3/30 at 9 join the Zimmer Club, 4411 Arthur Kill Rd. at a lecture on Conservation, Environment, Habitat Awareness, and enjoy a Trail Walk through Clay Pit Pond Park.  Good for ages 8-17.

The Staten Island Computer Science and STEAM Family Expo takes place on Saturday, 3/30 from 9-5 at the Borough President's Hall of Science, 715 Ocean Terr. Kid's Club Eggs-tra Fun is on Saturday 3/30 from 10-12 at all Staten Island locations of Michael’s Craft Store, 399 Richmond Valley Rd. Sensory Storytime takes place on Saturday 3/30 at 10:30 at the South Beach Library, 21-25 Robin Rd. This is an inclusive storytime program for children ages 3-10 that combines the best practices from special education and traditional storytime to create an interactive, engaging program for children of all abilities.

On Saturday 3/30 at 11, join Barnes & Noble, 2655 Richmond Ave. for “We Are the Gardeners” Storytime.  Written by Joanna Gaines, this new children’s book chronicles the adventures of starting a family garden. Join the Urban Park Rangers on a Conservation Hike on Saturday 3/30 from 11–12:30 at Brookfield Park, Arthur Kill Road and Brookfield Ave.  Your hiking guides will introduce you to the hidden gems of Staten Island. On your hikes, you may explore nature, discover our city’s urban forests, or just unplug from the world to clear your head.

Attend a book discussion by Jennifer Jones Austin, author of "Consider It Pure Joy" on Saturday, 3/30 from 12–2 for Women’s History Month at Curtis High School, 105 Hamilton Ave.  When Jennifer Jones Austin, the picture of good health, found herself stricken suddenly with an acute form of leukemia that required a bone marrow transplant to increase her chances of survival, Jennifer, her family and friends were in a race against time as they searched for a bone marrow donor to cure her of this deadly disease. The Staten Island Chapter of the AAA (Amateur Astronomers Association of NY) hosts public Stargazing in Gateway Great Kills National Park on Saturday, 3/30 from 8-11 at Hylan Blvd. & Buffalo St.  Members bring telescopes and binoculars through which everyone is invited to look. We provide instruction on how to find objects in the night sky. If you’re thinking of getting binoculars or a telescope yourself, this is a good opportunity to look at and through some equipment and ask questions of experienced users.

The Opening Reception of the 6th Annual S.W.A.N. Day (Support Women Artists Now), organized by Elaine Mendez and Labyrinth Arts Collective and hosted by SICC at Art on the Terrace, takes place on Saturday, 3/30 from 6 -8 featuring Art, Open Mic, Spoken Word, Music and Performances, and more.  Come honor local females who make great strides in our community to sustain the culture of art.  During our open mic*, we give a voice to all genres; bring your art, share your music, Spoken Word**, and announce your upcoming projects and events. The Noble Maritime Collection, 1000 Richmond Terr. Bldg. # 8, presents "This is a Print" on Sunday from 12-5 and continuing through 1/31/20.  Attend the opening of the newest exhibition! Inspired by John A. Noble’s preference for printmaking, this exhibition of antique and contemporary art—including pieces from the newly acquired collection of historian Barnett Shepherd--surveys the history of prints and the differences amongst various mediums, including etchings, engravings, lithographs, mezzotints, and photogravures. This exhibition opening is a free event.

On Sunday at 1, visit the Greenbelt Nature Center at 700 Rockland Ave. and create “plantable” recycled paper at the Seed Paper Workshop while learning about the importance of native plants! The paper is made by blending old newsprint and junk mail to create new paper pulp. Participants add a native seed mix that gets pressed into paper sheets which can be used for cards or letters or it can be planted so the embedded seeds can grow.
