Spring is busting out all over!  Just praying whatever flower blooming this week in my garden doesn’t get covered by a surprise snow storm or a bomb cyclone!  I took a stroll through Snug Harbor and spotted a sad looking turtle on a block of wood hesitating to go into the murky green water of the pond.  Two ducks were hanging out in the water but did not look too alive or excited to be there.

Did you attend Kelly Link’s theatrical reading of The Faery Handbag from the award-winning book “Pretty Monsters” presented by Staten Island OutLoud and hosted by Jodi Kenny at the Nothing New Thrift Store on Saturday? Following are photos from that event.

If you have never visited Nothing New Thrift Store at 4916 Arthur Kill Rd., you are in for a treat!  Everywhere you look, something will catch your eye, be it aromatherapy incense & oils, housewares, furniture, purses, shoes, well-placed and orderly racks of clothes--for men, women and children of all sizes or an entire children’s heaven on the lower level.  My granddaughter would camp out there if given the chance as she sifts through toys, dolls, games, costumes, skates and more.  You may be greeted by Jodi or her associates with “have a cup of coffee!” and cookies or maybe try your hand at an arts and crafts corner with the children.  Nothing New participates in fundraising and donates to both local and regional charities through the generosity of its customers and contributors.  Jodi has given away (to each first-time visitor) more than 5,000 pressed pennies engraved with the Ten Commandments "as my [Jodi’s] personal encouragement for everyone who ventures in to love God and love their neighbor" and donated over $100,000, encouraging neighbors to Buy Some, Give Some and Help Some.  Nothing New is open Monday thru Saturday, 10-7, Sunday 1-5.  You can contact Nothing New at 718-227-7467, email: nothingnewwarehouse@ gmail.com, or drop by in person, or visit their website:www.nothingnewwarehouse.com or https://www.facebook.com/pages/Nothing-New-Thrift-Shop/
