Started working on my garden which I’m happy to say is blooming nicely. 

Have you signed up for one of the Community Gardens in your neighborhood?  Did you attend the 2015 Daffodil Festival in Faber Park or participate in the Forest Restoration at High Rock?   Did you make any new friends this week or learn a new skill? 

On Saturday, 4/25 at 1:00, come out and join Red Storm Drum & Dance Troupe in celebrating Native American Culture at the new Heritage Park, Blissenbach Marina, Richmond Terrace.  There will be plenty of traditional story telling and audience participation.  A teepee and artifacts from Staten Island will be on site.

Also on Saturday from 11-6, help celebrate Earth Day at St. George Day in Tompkinsville Park at the intersection of Bay St. and Victory Blvd.  It is a great festival to experience with music, poetry readings, dance performances, an art show, a giant puppet parade (my favorite)throughout the park and much more.  Visit stgeorgedaysi.com for details.

Enjoy a FREE bluegrass concert brought to you by banjo player Doug Nicolaisen and friends on Saturday at 2 at the Richmond Town Public Library, 200 Clarke Ave.  The concert will show how bluegrass evolved from its roots in the Scots-Irish and African American traditions. 

Celebrate Spring by picking up your FREE fruit tree as part of the MillionTreesNYC.  Pre-register at www.nyrp.org/treegiveaways.  Upcoming dates and venues are as follows:

Take part in the annual NYC Chili Cookoff on Saturday from noon to 4 at Historic Richmond Town, 441 Clarke Ave.  Call 718-351-1611 or visit historicrichmondtown.org.

Experience a Herb or Weed Walk at the Conference House, sponsored by Protectors of Pine Oak Woods, this Saturday at noon.  Meet in the parking lot at the end of Hylan Blvd.

Stargazing is back at Great Kills Park with the Amateur Astronomers Associate of NY on Saturday at 7:30.  Observing site will be at the southern part of the large parking lot.

Visitthe yard sale sponsored by Fur Friends in Need at 1498 Clove Rd. on Saturday and Sunday from 10-4.  All proceeds will benefit homeless animals.

A performance of “The Diary of Anne Frank” will be held at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 2347 Davis Ave. on Sunday at 6.  Call 718-442-1527 for info and reservations.

On Sunday, 12-5, Gotham Motorcycles, at 364 Bay St. will be opening it's doors to the public with a FREE grand opening party. Come enjoy great food, drinks, music and check out the newest Indian, Victory and Polaris Slingshot models. Gotham also sells pre-owned motorcycles such as Harley Davidson and more!  It’s a great time to purchase a motorcycle (or convertible).  Nothing like the experience of fresh air on the open road! 

Come to a FREE Carnegie Hall performance on Sunday, 4/26 at 2 with Emily Eagen, (a two-time international whistling champion) and friends for singing, whistling, ukelele playing and more at Snug Harbor Building G, 1000 Richmond terrace, Studio 201. Great entertainment for the entire family!
