If you are a Mom, Aunt, Grandmother or Sister, I hope Mother’s Day was joyful. If your Mom has passed, it can be a sad day remembering the many good times that you shared with her. Also, if you have lost a child, your heart breaks when you relive every moment you spent loving that child. Mothers are special, but mothering is a hard job and at times, thankless. However, when that same child smiles up at you or takes your hand in his, everything becomes so right with the world! Bike Path Cruise Ride takes place on Saturday at 11 at Gateway National Recreation Area at Fort Wadsworth, 120 New York Ave. Join experienced ride leaders for a couple of hours on short, easy, mostly flat group rides. Explore the world’s largest landfill-to-park project with over 700 acres open for tours and recreation on Discovery Day, Sunday, 5/15 from 1-4 at Fresh Kills Park. Eight miles of trails and paths will offer views of the park’s hills, creeks and wildlife. A 5K course will be mapped out for runners and walkers. There will also be free bike rentals, shuttle buses into the park, shuttles to and from the Staten Island Ferry and a shuttle to the top of a hill that offers panoramic views of New York City. Attend a lecture on: Theos Bernard, The White Lama, Tibet, Yoga and American Religious Life on Sunday at 4:00 at the Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art, 318 Lighthouse Ave. Prof. Paul Hackett of Columbia University will share his knowledge of Theos Bernard, the self proclaimed "White Lama," who in 1937 became the third American in history to reach Lhasa, the capital city of Tibet. During his stay he amassed one of the largest collections of Tibetan texts, art and artifacts in the Western hemisphere at that time. Admission is $6.00/$4.00 students and seniors.
