As I continue to think about the quote, “The best things in life are not THINGS!”, I wonder how many of you agree.  If you would care to share your opinion, I am all ears!  My cousin told me he loves the security of money and what it can buy, especially his tools!  He is the type of guy who is happy in a t-shirt and jeans and not known for amassing lots of “stuff”--other than tools.  I agree with him that money gives you a sense of security, but as I de-clutter and give away things I have no use for and especially clothes that I have not worn in a long time, I question how and why I bought these “things” in the first place.  Should more thought be taken to help those who can’t help themselves, enjoy life in the present, be humble and kind?  I think I will start listening more to Tim McGraw's song, "Humble and Kind", especially the following lyrics:

“When it’s hot, eat a root beer popsicle, shut off the AC and roll the windows down. Let that summer sun shine. Always stay humble and kind.  Don’t take for granted the love this life gives you.  When you get where you’re goin’, don’t forget turn back around and help the next one in line.  Always stay humble and kind.”

Did you attend the Staten Island Orchid Show and Sale this past weekend, plant a tree for Arbor Day or take a hike?  Did you join Vincent Verdi and Ann Marie McDonnell at the Champagne Closing Reception of their exhibit at the Garibaldi-Meucci Museum.  Congratulations to Vincent and Ann Marie on a fantastic show!

Come to a FREE Neighborhood Concert: Viento de Agua on Saturday at 2 at the Music Hall in Snug Harbor Cultural Center, 1000 Richmond Terr.  Latin jazz big band Viento de Agua takes its name from a Puerto Rican phrase used to describe the damp and humid air that precedes an intense rainstorm. The band mixes traditional Afro–Puerto Rican rhythms with other Afro-Caribbean beats and jazz influences.

On Saturday at 2 at the Noble Maritime Collection, 1000 Richmond Terrace, Building D, join Staten Island OutLOUD in co-hosting Mark Twain's Lost Staten Island Novel with Island historian Andrew Wilson, who has uncovered an intriguing Mark Twain/Staten Island connection. The Cinco de Mayo Festival takes place on Saturday at 3:00 at Faber Park, 2178 Richmond Terr.
