The Borough President’s sponsored Summer Concert Series at Snug Harbor on Thursday evening was the perfect way to cool down on a very humid summer evening. By the time the SI Snugs started their performance, the breezes began and the Beatles Tribute Band—LoveMeDo, prompted the audience to sing along with all those favorite songs we remember from our younger days.

  

The Gillani Homes Charity BBQ was a great success on Friday.  Proceeds from the 50/50 were donated to the March of Dimes. Did you take your kiddies to the Tottenville Library for the Stuffed Animal Sleepover on Monday evening?  These children had fun making crafts, singing songs and reading with Miss Amy at the sleepover.

 

 

 

 

 

For teens aged 12-18, come to the first ever competitive Teen Airzooka Tournament on Wednesday, 7/27 at 2:30 at the Mariners Harbor Library, 206 South Ave. See how many cups you can stack while the other team tries to shoot your cups down with an airzooka. The team with the most stacked cups will be declared the tournament winners!

Participate in the Ocean Breeze Night Run, Wednesday at 7 at the Midland Beach Boardwalk, Fr. Capodanno Blvd. at Jefferson Ave. Starting and Finishing at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Splash Plaza (parking located by Father Capodanno and  Seaview Ave.), this scenic 2-mile course is designed for runners of all skill levels. Enjoy the Fireworks on Wednesday at 9 and every Wednesday through 8/31 at the South Beach Dolphin Fountain, Fr. Capodanno Blvd. and Sand Ln. The Boardwalk Grill is open, Uncle Louie G’s ices are cooling, the cotton candy and popcorn carts are ready to roll. This is a great way to cool down on a warm summer evening.

For ages 12-18, Instrumental and Vocal Auditions will be held on Thursday, 7/28 at 4 at the Music Hall, Snug Harbor Cultural Center, 1000 Richmond Terr.  Winners will open for the Richmond County Orchestra and Riverside Opera Company at a public concert at the Noble Maritime Collection on the grounds of Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden on 9/17. LEGO Mindstorms® is back with Robot Wars on Thursday at 1:30 at the Mariners Harbor Library, 206 South Ave. for ages 10-15.  Put your skills to the test and join us each week as we build and program robots. Richmond University Medical Center's Trauma Program and the NYC Dept. of Transportation will host a FREE Car Seat Installation and Safety Inspection event on Friday, 7/29 at 9:30 a.m. at Richmond University Medical Center, 355 Bard Ave.  Attendees can have their children's car seats inspected for safety or receive guidance on installation, along with safety tips. The 5th Annual Tri-State ZNA Koi Show takes place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 11 at Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden, Building G. 1000 Richmond Terrace, Studio 201. This exhibit of the country's finest koi fish has been brought together by the area's top koi hobbiests and includes spectacular bonsai displays by the top collectors from the area, demonstrations and some for sale. Attend a Presentation and Book Signing by Author Heather A. Pastore on Saturday at 3 at the Garibaldi-Meucci Museum, 420 Tompkins Ave. She will present her newest book "A Downtown Manhattan Love Affair", a story of two young, turn-of-the 20th-Century love birds who meet on a train heading to Manhattan's Lower East Side and the relationship that ensues between them. Heather is also the owner of "Manhattan Greeterz Walking Tours," and a licensed NYC Sightseeing Guide.  Admission to the Museum is $5.00 members-$10 non-members.

On Saturday at 3, for ages 12-18, at the Mariners Harbor Library, 206 South Ave., use conductive and non-conductive play dough and learn how to build a simple electronic circuit. Sculpt an animal and make it's eyes light up using LEDs. It's a fun way to learn about electricity. Build a Circuit is presented by Staten Island Makerspace.

Every Tuesday from 4-6 at Goodhue, 304 Prospect Ave., the Children’s Aid Society presents the “Go Healthy Food Box Program”, where a sack of freshly harvested New Jersey produce will be available for $10.  You can sign up, reserve and pay for a sack for the following week and then pick up your produce. You can pay by credit card, cash, NYS Health Bucks and soon by EBT.  Each week you will receive a new recipe and samples of the recipes.  I reserved my sack today and sampled Gingered Beet and Carrot Slaw.  See you next week at Goodhue!
