Last week, to greet the cooler weather, I gave you a round-up of events happening on Staten Island for the weekend. This week I’ll share more of my favorites.
Foodies: Pay Attention! The third North Shore Restaurant Crawl is scheduled for Sunday, 9/21 beginning at 1:00 p.m. and ending at 5:00 p.m. You can visit restaurants including Pier 76, Karl’s Klipper, Ruddy and Dean, Da Noi, to name just a few. At each of the restaurants, participants collect five or more stamps and will be entered into a drawing to win gift certificates and prizes. From 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., the day ends with a Mix and Mingle at the Crawl’s headquarters, Edgewater Hall at 691 Bay St. featuring music, art, soft drinks, coffee, cookies, raffles & more. Advanced tickets can be purchased at Event Brite (http://www.eventbrite.com/e/north-shore-restaurant-crawl-september-21st-2014-tickets-12728412023) for $15 or for $20 on the day of the event at 691 Bay St. or Allstate at 60 Bay St. The North Shore Business Association is sponsoring this event. Their goal is to bring cohesion and a voice to the North Shore of Staten Island; they are committed to transformation, beautification and safety in our neighborhoods. On Saturday 9/20 from 8-10 a.m. at the Cemetery of the Resurrection on Sharrott Ave., join birder Anthony Ciancimino for a birding experience. Meet at the first entrance beside the cemetery’s restrooms closest to Hylan Blvd.
From 9:00 a.m. – Noon – Cleanup at Sharrott and Mount Loretto beaches – Meet at the fishing pier parking lot opposite the intersection of Hylan and Sharrott to take part in the International Coastal Cleanup. Bags, gloves, refreshments will be provided.
From 1:00 – 3:00 at Clay Pit Ponds State Park Preserve, meet John Paul Learn for a stroll through the trails and experience this absolutely beautiful park.
On Sunday, 9/21 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Willowbrook Park, participate in a nature study through the Park. Meet at the Carousel.
From 2:00 – 4:00, at Buck’s Hollow and Heyerdahl Hill – Meet at the stone wall on Meisner Avenue by the intersection of Rockland venue and explore these woodlands.
Bring your kids and introduce them to these hikes, bird watching, nature events and volunteering. They are never too young to start and it will change their lives for the better!
Visit the Staten Island Arts Council’s new headquarters at the Culture Lounge inside the St. George ferry terminal. “Passenger and Vessel”, the current show (a project of the Collective Sperm Whale), continues through 9/21.
The Noble MaritimeMuseum’s “Bascove/Bridges: Transporting the Metropolis” spotlights painter Ann Bascove, whose MTA Arts for the Transit images will open 9/20 through 7/12/15. For more info, visit http://www.noblemaritime.org/bascove_bridges.html The Museum is located at Snug Harbor Cultural Center, 1000 Richmond Terrace.
A visit to the Garibaldi-Meucci Museum at 420 Tompkins Ave. in Rosebank is a must. "The Colors of Florence: Digital Paintings by Fritz (Steven) Weiss" will open with a free artist’s reception on 9/20 at 2:00 p.m. The exhibition is from a collection of 5,000 digital images, taken over a 14-day period, which are part of Weiss's "Italian Collection 2007." After the reception, this show may be viewed during regular museum hours with paid admission through November 23, 2014.
