Fort Wadsworth - Staten Island, NY

Fort Wadsworth itself contains much American history within its walls. The military base, for which the neighborhood was named, was built in 1663 and was active until 1994, making it the longest continually manned military installation in the United States. The fort is now part of the Gateway National Recreation service and is accessible by paid visit. Fort Wadsworth is also the starting point for the annual NYC Marathon, and ending point for the annual Five Boro Bike Tour. The neighborhood of Fort Wadsworth is considered synonymous with Shore Acres, which is the part of the North Shore of Staten Island bordered by Rosebank, Concord, and South Beach. Education options for this area include schools in neighboring areas, such as P.S. 13 and P.S. 39.
