Bloomfield - Staten Island, NY
Bloomfield sits on the West Shore of Staten Island, north of Travis and west of Bulls Head. It was originally named Daniell's Neck, then Merrell Town, followed by its current name, taken in 1874. This neighborhood underwent mostly commercial development throughout the 20th century, and was once home to a large Gulf Oil storage terminal. A tragic accident occurred in 1973 involving TetCo natural gas tanks, killing 40 workers at the site. The neighborhood now contains many large office complexes along South Avenue, and other noteworthy businesses such as the Hilton Garden Inn Hotel, the NY Container Terminal, and the Staten Island E-ZPass office. There were talks of building a NASCAR track at the old Gulf Oil facility, but this is just speculation. Local buses for this area are the S46 and S96, and the proposed West Shore Light Rail project will include a stop in Bloomfield. Nearest schools would be located in the neighboring areas of Bulls Head, Graniteville, or Mariners Harbor.
