Last week, I wrote about a business on the North Shore that had recently opened up. Today, I want to tell you about their neighbor at 840 Castleton Ave.
What can I say about “Boutique 840”? The owner of this unique boutique is Michael Spence, an affable gentleman who has been in the fashion biz for quite some time. He began his business on Staten Island over ten years ago as Michael’s Pocketbooks. I discovered him the week of Christmas over five years ago in a store that brightened up the neighborhood. I entered only to find gorgeous pocketbooks at reasonable prices, jewelry that was unique, scarves, hats, and other winter items and an invite to have a glass of wine with him. Wow! I purchased earrings and returned later on with my sister and niece; we all made additional purchases.
Now five years later, he has opened the Boutique 840. The store is full of color, including a multitude of pocketbooks, women’s clothes, personal oils, organic soaps, hats, wallets, jewelry, art work. Local artisan designers are invited to showcase and sell their creations.
I was invited to a Shop & Sip, which will be a regular Friday night event from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. While you shop, you can sip on wine, nosh on goodies and socialize with your friends. A great night out with the ladies, and/or gents for that matter! 
On Sundays, Jewelry Making classes are hosted by Michael. Upcoming events will be Bingo Night which takes place the last Wednesday of each month beginning June 25 and Yoga classes. An RSVP is required as space is limited. The Boutique 840 is opened six days a week (closed on Sunday) from 11:00 – 7:00 p.m. and is located at 840 Castleton Avenue in West Brighton, a mere hop, skip and a jump from Richmond University Medical Center. This is a great opportunity to support your local artisans and your local businesses.
