Did you register your child for the Zimmer Club’s 2019 Winter Youth, accompany your teen to the Staten Island NAACP 9th Annual HBCU Experience College Fair 2019, enroll in one of the classes at Staten Island MakerSpace or attend the Exhibit Opening of the “Sons and Daughters of Italy: The Fashions and Faces of the Regions of Italy” at the Garibaldi-Meuicci Museum?  

Whatever you did, after the extremely low temperatures rose to 29 degrees, did you feel like you were warm again?  I actually wore long-johns to warm these old bones last week--something I haven't done in many years.  It was a relief for a brief moment as we anticipate snow, ice, etc. this week!

Did you, my gentle readers, shovel snow this weekend?  If you live on Staten Island, you probably had all the tools of the trade ready—snow blower, shovels, salt.  All over the country, there were floods, icing, snow storms and chilly, sub-zero weather; even my Southern friends were chilled. We dodged the snow bullet on the Island but were prepared. Did you attend the NYC Dept. of Small Business Services “Business Planning Basics” last Wednesday? There is nothing like being your own boss.  This course is a good start to organizing your business plan and making your dream of owning a small business a reality.  Did you hear Author Kristin Pitanza discuss Speed My Way Up?  I’m sure many of you have your own thoughts about relocating to Staten Island and others about how the Island changed after the Verrazzano Bridge was built and the ensuing overbuilding and overcrowding, especially on the roads.

Did you bring your “bouncing babies”, toddlers, children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews to one of the many Story Time events at the libraries this week or just set them on your lap to read in your own space and at your own pace?  There is nothing more comforting than reading to a child who is attentive, excited about turning the pages, excited about each part of the story and what comes next.
