Winter may have just started to set in, but spring is not far away and that means that, if the time has come to sell your home, you want to start preparing the house to look its best for any interested buyers. Here are Four tasks that can have the biggest visual impact when it comes time to show your home to prospective buyers.Â
1. De-Personalize Your Home
When looking to buy a home, people like to think of themselves living in that space. It’s hard to do this when there are pictures of someone else’s family every where. Remove decorations and pictures that represent your family and apply neutral colors and decorations. If you have painted rooms bright colors, consider returning them to a neutral white before showing.Â
2. Remove ClutterÂ
The heavy duty cleaning and repairs are important, but don’t underestimate the power of clutter. A lot of clutter can make it hard to imagine living in a space and can actually make the house look smaller than it is. Remove as much as you can, going as far as to hold garage sales or rent a storage unit if necessary.
3. Focus on the Curb Appeal
Make your home look good on the outside. Clean the siding, trim the lawn, plant some new shrubs or trees, replace old and worn signs. Add some paint to the trim - whatever you have to do to make your house look good from a distance.Â
4. Make Small Repairs
Don’t kill yourself making major repairs that will cost you a lot of money. Fix little stuff that a buyer won’t want to deal with when they move in. Things like holes in the wall, cracked tiles, uneven doors, bad light bulbs, leaky faucets or worn furniture that simply makes things look old and worn.Â
While there are a number of things you can do that will make people ooh and aah over your home, if time and money are limited aim to improve the little things that have the biggest impact first. That initial impression will often have the biggest impact on potential buyers.Â
