After the trick-or-treating is done and the sun goes down on Halloween Night, the gates to Fountain Cemetery in Port Richmond, one of Staten Island's oldest and rumored most haunted cemeteries, will be opened for a spooky walking tour.

Ghost enthusiasts and those seeking a scare will be led by torchlight through the deepest, darkest parts of this 213-year-old cemetery. According to Staten Island/Fountain Cemetery Association President Lynn Rogers, this cemetery has been the location of many reports of spirit sightings over the years. The cemetery rests over what was once a sacred Lenape Indian burial ground, which accounts for the sight of a phantom wandering Native American man. Other recurring sightings include a woman in a long dress, a soldier from the War of 1812, and a young boy roaming the grounds.

The Friends of Abandoned Cemeteries, Inc. will be hosting the event and providing tour-goers with historical backgrounds of some of the cemetery's more prominent residents. The tour begins at 7:30pm, costs $20 for adults and $10 for students under 18. Bring your own flashlights and cameras because once the tour is over, attendees are free to wander the grounds themselves in search of more spooks and scares.
For more information and to register for the tour, contact Lynn Rogers at (917) 545-3309.
