For anyone who lives in Staten Island or is considering a move, it’s great to know about all the wonderful things to do while living here. This community has so much to offer its residents - everything from concerts to theater to activities for the kids. If you’re interested in getting involved in the coming months, here are a few things you might want to check out.

Scarecrow Festival

On October 6th, head over to Blue Heron Park in Annadale to celebrate the arrival of fall. There is no charge to get in and you can make your own life size scarecrow. Bring an old shirt and pair of pants to stuff, and there is a minimal charge for materials. This is a fun activity for young and old alike, and refreshments will be provided.

Titanic at the Maritime

For history lovers, the Noble Maritime Collection has an exhibition, Titanic: A Centennial Exhibition of Contemporary Art. The exhibit is open Thursdays thru Sundays from 1pm-5pm and runs through December 30th.

Brewfest

For the beer lover, there’s the Staten Island Yankees Brewfest on October 20th. It starts at 1pm at the Richmond County Bank Ballpark at St. George. If you like to make your own beer, now’s the time to enter the home brew competition for a cash prize. There will also be beers from both local and non-local breweries as well as foods from over twenty local restaurants. The Bandulos will also be playing throughout the afternoon. The Brewfest donates a portion of their proceeds to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

The King and I

Coming in November, theater lovers can see a new production of The King and I at the Music Hall in the Snug Harbor Cultural Center. This Rogers and Hammerstein original starts its run on November 5th, and features many well-known songs including “Getting to Know You,” and “Shall We Dance?”
