Did you play Volleyball on the Beach last Saturday at Great Kills Park? It is a great way to start your day off.  The 115th Anniversary Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Society and festival ended on Sunday.  The National Landmarked Grotto is spectacular and something you will never forget.  I light a candle every year.  Can you imagine the local Italian-Americans building this grotto over the years?

The Borough President’s FREE Sunset Summer Concert Series on Thursday at Snug Harbor was just what the doctor ordered.  London Fogg played all the great oldies as we sang along and a few even danced. JazzOut4tet entertained with favorite jazz hits as we relaxed in the evening breeze.

Did you see “Flubber”, “Despicable Me 3” or “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows!” in any of the parks?  I’m amazed at how many parks there are on Staten Island.  How many have you been to?  Care to share some photos?  One day, while babysitting my granddaughter, I suggested we go to a playground/park.  She responded, “Can we go to the Pink Park?”  OMG!  I know her favorite color is pink, but I wasn’t aware of a specific park that color.  We arrived at the nearest park on a side road in Huguenot.  It was surrounded by a high construction-like fencing.  There was an entrance, but one of the workers said, “Tomorrow is the last day it will be open.  We are completely redoing it.”  Needless to say, we played in that park for hours, and many other children arrived thereafter.  What a fun time we (they) had going up and down ladders and slides and running around the park. When we were leaving, I looked across the highway and lo and behold, there stood the Pink Park!  OK, another day for that one.
