Did you experience the Sandy Ground Festival this weekend and taste their special "secret" sauce?

Did you visit the Noble Museum and participate in the Sea Shanty Session or  have fun at the 11th Annual Art by the Ferry Festival or finally learn how to cycle at the FREE Bicycling Class? What about Every Thing Goes Book Store and Cafe?  Big sales going on at ETG stores!  Picked up new books for my grandchildren and mysteries for me.  Enjoyed lunch with my friend and then strolled over to the Every Thing Goes Thrift & Vintage Clothing shop at 140 Bay St.  Lots of great finds! The bands Midnight Muse and Eddie Jackson were terrific Wednesday.  It was cool in Westerleigh Park around the gazebo. The audience enjoyed the singing, the music and ambience as the kiddies danced and played gleefully with each other.  Don't miss the "Rock-A-Silly Band" this week.  Entertaining for the kids!

Join the Urban Park Rangers to learn about deer on Wednesday at 11 at the Greenbelt Nature Center, 700 Rockland Ave. You will play a Deer Survival Game and find signs of deer in the park (buck rubs, deer scat, deer prints, chewed twigs), hike outdoors, and share five tips to follow to promote a healthy coexistence with deer. On Wednesday from 6-7, NYC Parks and the City Stompers invite you to get on your feet and move to the sounds of live American fiddle music at South Beach on the Gazebo.

Bring the entire family to the weekly Wednesday Night Summer Concert Series tonight from 7-9 at Westerleigh Park, 160 Neal Dow Ave. featuring The Rock-A-Silly Band, a favorite of the kiddies.  Bring a chair or blanket and enjoy the night air and stars.

The Borough President’s FREE Sunset Summer Concert Series continues on Thursday, 8/23 at 7 on at the Conference House Park, 298 Satterlee St. featuring “Cause and Effect”. Bring a blanket or chair and meet friends for a fun evening under the stars. 

On Friday, 8/24 from 10-2, the Northwell medical van will be at the UAME Church, 49 Tompkins Ave. The van is designed to provide improved access to care, and provide screenings (blood pressure, body mass index) and information on healthy living, cancer services, nutrition, behavioral health, rehabilitation, cholesterol, diabetes, stroke, blood pressure, healthy aging, and nutrition.

Meet at the Overlook at Ft. Wadsworth on Friday from 3-4 with a living history interpreter to learn more about everyday life at Fort Wadsworth, and watch a 19th century black powder firing demonstration.

The Friends of Kivlehan Park invite all to the "Great American New Dorp Family Picnic" on Saturday 8/25 from 12-5 to the park at the corner of Garibaldi and Cedar Grove Aves.  Pack a lunch, bring a chair and spend the afternoon in the park enjoying music, ice cream, NYPD's Rock Climbing Wall, games and crafts for the kids, and the Watermelon Eating Contest.

The Snug Harbor's Free Summer Concert Series continues this Saturday at 7 on the South Meadow Lawn, 1000 Richmond Terr. and features Joan Caddell & the Midnight Choir.  Opening Act is Karlus Trapp.  Bring a chair or blanket.  Honor Wines and Flagship Brewing Co. will pour drinks for those 21-and-over at $5 a pop, while Cheech A' Cini's Food Truck supplies fried pasta balls and other Italian fare throughout the concerts.

Join Kayak Staten Island for FREE public kayaking off the shore at Conference House Park, 7455 Hylan Blvd. on Sunday 8/26 from 11-2!  Boats and life jackets will be provided for a short paddle. Launch help and paddling tips are given by experienced kayakers at the shore and on the water. Wear clothes and shoes that can get wet. Forgotten NY's Richmond Terrace: Staten Island Tour takes place on Sunday, 8/26 from 12-2:30 and begins in front of Staten Island Borough Hall at 10 Richmond Terr. Take a walk in historic, picturesque St. George and New Brighton on this architecture-laden tour. You will visit the recently restored St. George Theater, landmarked cottages of St. Marks Place, stroll Richmond Terrace along the Kill Van Kull, see a clutch of more beautiful homes in New Brighton and finish with a drink at historic Liedy’s Shore Inn! On Sunday, 8/26 at 3, attend a FREE outdoor concert featuring Staten Island Philharmonic’s Viva Voce Woodwind Quintet including another world premier by Dr. Howard Fox with his Woodwind Quintet #1 at High Rock Park, 200 Nevada Ave. Park outside the main gate, follow the park road up toward the “Council Ring” stage area.
