After a few weeks of sultry days and nights, we are finally experiencing relief! Vito Picone and the Elegants highlighted Saturday’s Borough President-sponsored concert at Midland Beach.  Always on top, these gentlemen made us laugh, tap our feet, dance and brought back the memories of our younger lives with their wonderful doo-wop vocals ending with their hit "Little Star".

This past Sunday, I attended the Ballroom Dancing Social at the Y and never sat down.  It is always a pleasure to practice and learn new steps with Blanny Couto and other experienced dancers.  There was a good turnout with many different dancers willing to take the newbies under their wings with the Hustle, Tango, Waltz, Salsa and the Fox Trot.  The Social continues on 9/11 at 7 at the Y at the Broadway Branch.  You do not need to be a Y member to attend, and it’s FREE! Come join us and have some fun! 

Before the summer ends, be sure to participate in Boogie Woogie Wednesdays today, 8/24 at 5 at the Staten Island Children's Museum, 1000 Richmond Terr.  Sponsored in part by the Staten Island Delegation to the NYC Council and Dunkin Donuts, Boogie Woogie Wednesday, a FREE outdoor Wednesday evening music and dance program, is a great way to sneak some family time into a busy week. Pack a picnic dinner, dine under the tent on the Meadow and then dance the night away. Communities United For Respect and Trust is holding its 12th annual Solution Making Summit on Sunday, from 5-8 at the Brighton Heights Reformed Church, 320 St. Mark's Pl. It is open to the public and a buffet supper will be served.  Police, criminal justice, street violence and our communities will be discussed.  Co-sponsors are NAACP-SI Chapter, National Action Network, SI Council of Churches, SI Inter-Religious Leadership, Occupy the Block, Mothers Against Senseless Killing, Park Hill Empowerment Zone, Eye-Openers Youth Against Violence, Staten Island Immigrants Council, Mt.
