On Wednesday, I accompanied my grandchildren to an interactive musical production featuring Presley and Melody at the Tottenville Library.  They sing

 

 

 

 

(with words to the songs on a screen so all can sing along), dance and include every child in their production by sharing props—rainbows, blow-up guitars, pom-poms, smiley face paddles.

I attended Boogie Woogie Wednesday at the Children’s Museum.  The kiddies in attendance had a ball, participating in the different exhibits of the museum, listening to the stories being read about Tito Puente and Celia Cruz by Literacy INC, coloring pictures.  Also, the children were taught a few simple steps to dance the Salsa.  Snacks were distributed in the eating area on the lower level and then more playing in the musical/herb garden.  What an enjoyable time!  If you haven’t taken your children, grandchildren to the Children’s Museum at Snug Harbor, try to fit it into your schedule before they return to school.  There is something of interest for every child of every age.  It is open on weekends, also.

The Staten Island Shakespearean Theatre production of “The Trojan Women” by Euripides took place at Battery Weed in Ft. Wadsworth.  An especially challenging location with the roar of the traffic on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge (practically above us) and the cicadas chirping their songs at intervals, the lead Regina Paleau (Hecuba, formerly Queen of Troy) carried the production with her larger-than-life voice.  This is a story of slavery, death, destruction and tragedy, and the cast readily conveys all of those tragic feelings to the audience.  Great job!

Tonight at 7:30, cool off as you watch a FREE Movie Screening of the “West Side Story” at Snug Harbor in the North East Meadow, 1000 Richmond Terr.   Bring your blankets, picnic and popcorn.

Enjoy the cool breezes from the beach and the spectacular Fireworks tonight at 9 at the South Beach Dolphin Fountain, Fr. Capodanno Blvd. and Sand Ln.  The Boardwalk Grill is open, Uncle Louie G’s ices are cooling, the cotton candy and popcorn carts are at your service.

Bring your family to the Staten Island Museum at Snug Harbor 1000 Richmond Terrace, Building A for a 1st Saturday Family Workshop of Art Making on Saturday, 9/3 from 1-3. Admission is FREE with Museum admission.

Thupten Phuntsok leads a guided meditation session on Saturday 9/3 at 11:30 at the Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art, 338 Lighthouse Ave.  The admission is $12/$10 for members. Please arrive by 11:30; The Museum will provide chairs and cushions; you may want to remove your shoes. There is time for questions at the middle of the class and at the end.

The Car Show to benefit The National Kidney Foundation takes place Sunday, 9/4 from 11-4 at the Marine Corps League Hall, 46 Ontario Ave. Admission is FREE.  Show cars entry fee is $20. The Show will feature more than 100 cars from NY and NJ--Antique, Classic, custom and modern vehicles. The last concert as part of Boardwalk Days at South Beach 2016 will be held on Sunday from 3-6 under the Gazebo at Fr. Capodanno and Sand Lane.

Join the NYRR Open Run at the Visitor Center in Conference House Park, 7455 Hylan Blvd. on Sunday from 9-10.  Open Run is a community-based, volunteer-led running initiative bringing free weekly runs and walks to local neighborhood parks, across all five boroughs of NYC.

Nar-Anon Travel to Peace, a support group for family and friends of addicts, meets Monday, 9/5 at 8 at St. Christopher's Meeting Hall, 136 Midland Ave. For info, call 917-841-2145.
