Congratulations to the Mid-Island Little League Mid-Atlantic champions!  They played spectacularly into this year’s Little League World Series and were honored by a pep rally at their baseball field in Travis with fans lining the streets as their bus returned from PA.  The Mets honored the team at Citi Field on Sunday, inviting them to warm ups and batting practice.  This Friday, 8/31, the Staten Island Yankees and Empire Outlets will honor the team at the Yankees game against Vermont where each player will receive a $1,000 gift card to Empire Outlets.  If you would like to be part of the festivities, you can purchase tickets at https//groupmatics.events/event/MidIsland or call the box office at 718-720-9265 and mention Mid-Island Little League.  $5 from every ticket purchased will be donated back to Mid-Island Little League.

Joan Caddell & the Midnight Choir and Karlus Trapp wowed the audience at the final free summer concert at Snug Harbor on Saturday. High energy abounded! Children danced in the field, pooches mingled, people sang along.  It was a fun people-watching evening.

On Sunday, the Staten Island Philharmonic’s Woodwinds Ensemble concert at High Rock Park was just what the doctor ordered for me—peace.  In this beautiful Greenbelt Park, classical music resounded occasionally accompanied by the sound of crickets and wildlife.  As I watched two young boys with their family quietly listening to the Vive Voce Woodwind Quintet, I remembered my infant son cooing as I played Bach, Rachmaninoff, Liszt, Chopin on the piano.  I hope their musical tastes always include classical.  If you missed this performance on Sunday, read below on Saturday and Sunday for performances with the full orchestra, Vive Voce Chorus and the Dyker Singers!
