BFC Partners, the developers of the upcoming Empire Outlets complex in St. George, are planning yet another big project in Stapleton.

The new building will be located at 475 Bay Street, a few short blocks away from the Stapleton train station. Of the proposed eight floors, the first will contain almost 9,000 square feet of retail space, and floors 2 through 8 will contain 214 residential units. The building will also have its own enclosed parking lot. Permit applications were filed Monday morning, along with zoning change requests. The current zone codes do not allow the space to be used for residential purposes, but only for light manufacturing and commercial use.

The planning of Empire Outlets in St. George is well underway. Nordstrom Rack will be the primary leaseholder for the million-square-foot space on the waterfront. This space will house an estimated 100 retail outlets, a 200-room hotel, and 40,000 square feet of restaurants. In addition, the New York Wheel, a colossal ferris wheel offering spectacular views of the harbor and city skyline, is also being planned. Developers are hoping that this new destination will ignite Staten Island tourism and revenue streams.

Developments of this size and nature can take a while to come together, but we are anxious to see how they shape the future of Staten Island's North Shore!
