The end of summer is nowhere close for people who live on Staten Island. Free outdoor activities are planned throughout the month of August, and are held at a variety of local parks. These free activities make it possible for families to enjoy the beautiful weather without having to spend a great deal of money in order to do so.

Back to the Beach takes place at Midland Beach Sea Turtle Circle on August 18 and 19. During this time, guests can be treated to shows designed especially for children. A magic show and musical performance are two of the shows that are held for kids. Following these shows, a number of musical acts take center stage, with the last show beginning at 8 pm. Fireworks follow at 9 pm on Saturday the 18th, with the rain date being on Sunday, August 19th.

Staten Island locals can also enjoy music and fireworks on Friday, August 24th. This end of summer concert takes place at the South Beach Boardwalk from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. South Beach Boardwalk has recently been restored, thanks to the efforts of a local preservation group. De ja vue and New York Minute are both scheduled to perform during this end of summer concert, which is promptly followed by a fireworks show. In the event of rain, fireworks will be held on August 25th instead.

Throughout the month of August, starlight concerts are held at several parks throughout Staten Island. These concerts are held on Thursday evenings from 7:30 to 10 pm. On August 2nd, the weekly starlight concert will be held at South Beach Boardwalk and will feature Just Friends and Function 11. This show will be immediately preceded by special fireworks. The following week, Westerleigh Park will host the event, which is headed by Rave On and Alive n' Kicking.

There's still plenty of summer left, and those who live on Staten Island have plenty of opportunities to take advantage of it. Attending one of the free summer events at Staten Island parks can be a good way to connect with other people who call this unique borough of the Big Apple their home.
