The Mount Manresa complex, the former Jesuit Retreat located in Fort Wadsworth, was constructed in the 1920s. Recently, the site has suffered partial demolition, causing unsafe conditions for island residents. Apparently, the demolition company who began the process initially submitted fraudulent reports. What they failed to make clear is that this old structure contains Asbestos, and further destruction will cause air pollution and put residents at risk for exposure. So far, at least 8 nearby residents have complained of health problems due to the deconstruction.

The event will take place from 2pm to 6pm. Tickets are $40 at the door, payable by cash or check. Appetizers and drinks will be served, and there will be also be prize raffles. Funds raised will be put toward expert evaluations of the site, and other legal and printing fees associated with informing and protecting the community from this health risk.
