As I continue to think about the quote, “The best things in life are not THINGS!”, I wonder how many of you agree.  If you would care to share your opinion, I am all ears!  My cousin told me he loves the security of money and what it can buy, especially his tools!  He is the type of guy who is happy in a t-shirt and jeans and not known for amassing lots of “stuff”--other than tools.  I agree with him that money gives you a sense of security, but as I de-clutter and give away things I have no use for and especially clothes that I have not worn in a long time, I question how and why I bought these “things” in the first place.  Should more thought be taken to help those who can’t help themselves, enjoy life in the present, be humble and kind?  I think I will…

Did you visit the Living Nativity at Salem Evangelical Church last week, listen to Choral music or breathed fresh air at one of our parks or nature areas. 

My grandson, Gerard, ever the aficionado of prehistoric creatures, and at age 3, can pronounce the names of every dinosaur, is in for a treat!  “Dinosaur Encounters” debuted at the Staten Island Zoo yesterday.  Eight animatronic dinos will be at the Zoo for four months until April 1.  Triggered by motion detectors, the beasts move heads and tails and grunt and growl hoarsely.  The exhibit is free with regular admission.  

Saturday, 12/20 and Sunday, 12/21, the Staten Island Ballet presents "The Nutcracker" at 1 and 5 p.m. at the Center for the Arts at the College of Staten Island, 2800 Victory…

You are in for a treat this weekend, not only because today and tomorrow (Friday and Saturday) will be in the 70’s (extending my beloved Summer for a few more days) but because the 27th Universal Temple of the Arts Staten Island Jazz Festival takes place on Saturday, 10/18, from 2-7:00 at the Music Hall in Snug Harbor Cultural Center, 1000 Richmond Terrace.  The co-founder and executive director of the UTA, the tireless Sajda Musawwir Ladner, stated in a recent interview that the annual musical marathon "is a direct extension of Universal Temple of the Arts' mission of  'quickening the creative spirit in the individual and community and fostering brotherly love’.  It provides a stage upon which UTA's students, community members and world-renowned artists…

Many of you will have Monday off for Columbus Day so hopefully, your weekend is planned.  If not, check out the following events.  Are you ready for------“Rome Through Richmond Town”?  In response to the cancellation of the Columbus Day Parade, this is an experiment to celebrate all aspects of the Italian-American culture.  It will take place on Saturday, 10/11 from noon till 5:00 p.m. There will be entertainment, educational and cultural displays.  Participating organizations include Casa Belvedere, The DaVinci Society, the Garibaldi Meucci Museum, the Order of Sons of Italy in America to name a few.
