I apologize for not getting my events update to you sooner.  Last night was the West Brighton Holiday Stroll, a terrific family event featuring the Forest Ave. strip from Walbrooke Ave. to Broadway!  Businesses set up tables outside their stores/offices, greeting the Strollers, sharing food, goodies, giveaways, singing Christmas carols, sharing information, taking pictures with Santa, the Snowman, Ninja Turtles and much more.  Everyone was happy, enjoying pizza, hot soup, chicken fingers, pasta, hot chocolate, coffee, apple cider, balloons and chatting with friends and making new acquaintances along the way.  Even I got to meet Santa in front of Pastosa Ravioli!

Talk about stores and businesses--How many of you skipped Black Friday, slept in the day…

I recently had the pleasure of meeting the proprietors of the “Wicked Stitches” at a Realtor trade show.  While having my nails done recently on Castleton Ave., I noticed “Wicked Stitches” was directly across the street.  I walked in and was thrilled at what beheld me.  A beautiful store front, artful displays of a variety of personalized embroidered gifts for simply every occasion and a counter with two comfortable chairs to leisurely look at everything these two terrific women have to offer. 

Nancy Nix and Carolyn Buckheit, the co-owners of “Wicked Stitches” and native Staten Islanders, welcomed me into their store as if I was a friend or a sister--I felt like I have known them forever.  They custom embroider anything you can imagine—gifts for…

In an article in the Staten Island Advance, it was noted that the Economic Development Corp. released a Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEI) for the purchase and redevelopment of the Department of Sanitation Garage in New Brighton.  This garage has been a thorn in the side of the neighborhood for over fifty years.  Elected officials and neighborhood activists have long considered the garage an environmental blight on the community and stumbling block to any plans to revitalize the Jersey Street corridor. In the winter, the Sanitation trucks idle for hours in the neighborhood awaiting the starting pistol to "move the plows" when the snow hits the pavement.  Pedestrians are forced to walk on the street as trucks block walk-ways.  In the summer, the…
