Did you, my gentle readers, embrace the surprise snow storms we encountered this past week?  I do enjoy the scenery after a new-fallen snow! I finally had a chance to play in the snow with the grandkiddies, helped them build a snowman, made snow angels, watched them slide down the hills and listened to their squeals of delight.  I don’t, however, appreciate the stress of commuting in the snow, struggling to get to appointments on time and, of course, shoveling.

Did you get involved this week in your Community Board, neighborhood civic group, the PTA or any other organization where you can make a difference?  As a child, I learned from the example of my parents, relatives and friends to volunteer my services, get involved with church, school and/or neighborhood groups.   It seemed like the more I had on my plate and the busier I was in my life, the more I could accomplish.  I’m sure many of you feel the same.  We are all occupied with family, friends, health, work and our other issues which become overwhelming at times.  Somehow, I have found that when you help others, all those issues melt away.  My own opinion, of course!

This week, my grandchildren came over, and we worked on Paper Crafting. (Thanks to

Good news! Staten Island Chuck did not see his shadow so that means an early Spring.  I hope he is right!

Did you attend the Property Tax Exemption and Rent Freeze Enrollment Event sponsored by Senators Lanza and Savino, the Tenant, Home Owner and Landlord Resource Fair sponsored by Councilwoman Debi Rose or the Town Hall meeting hosted by North Shore Assemblyman Charles D. Fall?  You, my gentle readers, have the opportunity to attend Community Board meetings, neighborhood civic organizations or any of the forums where you can make a difference and become a part of changing the issues that you may be dealing with. If you did not attend but continue to complain about everything wrong with your neighborhood, taxes, rents, elected officials, etc., I…

Did you, my gentle readers, shovel snow this weekend?  If you live on Staten Island, you probably had all the tools of the trade ready—snow blower, shovels, salt.  All over the country, there were floods, icing, snow storms and chilly, sub-zero weather; even my Southern friends were chilled. We dodged the snow bullet on the Island but were prepared. I hope you left the house and participated in some activities--maybe the Bird and Nature Walk at the Conference House or Evening Group Hike through the Greenbelt or volunteered with HEALTH for Youths cleaning and beautifying various parks as part of the It’s My Park program.  I attended the Writing Workshop for Adults: Introduction to Memoir Writing on Saturday led by award-winning author Marianna Randazzo at…

Did you attend the NYC Dept. of Small Business Services “Business Planning Basics” last Wednesday? There is nothing like being your own boss.  This course is a good start to organizing your business plan and making your dream of owning a small business a reality.  Did you hear Author Kristin Pitanza discuss Speed My Way Up?  I’m sure many of you have your own thoughts about relocating to Staten Island and others about how the Island changed after the Verrazzano Bridge was built and the ensuing overbuilding and overcrowding, especially on the roads.

Did you take any hikes throughout Staten Island’s many parks?  Please feel free to share your photos.

Did you attend Picture Lotto Sunday, at historic Mont Sec house in Ft. Wadsworth?

Following are scenes from an evening ride through our North Shore neighborhoods.  The display of lights brightened the streets and, of course, my mood.  It must be so enjoyable walking your dog at night or just strolling after dinner to admire the handiwork of your neighbors. If you would like to share a photo of your special light display, please do not hesitate to snap and e-mail or text me.
