Did you attend Living with Deer on Saturday at the Greenbelt Nature Center. During a recent trip to Colorado, I spotted four bucks just crossing the street. They are huge up close!  Notice how they look you right in the eye.

Then, while driving home on a secondary road at night, I noticed a dark blur in front of my car. When I high-beamed the blur, it turned out to be a bunch of baby deer just hanging out in the middle of the road. Where was Mommy?!  The deer population on Staten Island has become just as rampant.  Please—don’t feed the deer!

Did you bring your family to the Victorian parlour at the beautiful Mont Sec House to listen to a Victorian Thanksgiving Story, attend Poetry and Prose with Staten Island OutLOUD celebrating Greenbelt’s…

Thanksgiving is on Thursday!  Will you watch the Macy’s Annual Thanksgiving Day Parade on TV?  Will you host family and friends to celebrate the day?  Will you serve dinner to those who are less fortunate?  Do you feel fine just doing NOTHING and get annoyed with friends who insist you come to their house?!  Tell me what kind of side dishes you will cook; do you have a pasta dish, a specific cultural dish or multiple courses of food.  I’d love to know what your Thanksgiving Day table looks like—will you share pictures with me next week.

Have you had a chance to enjoy FALL?  I have raked way too many leaves at this juncture but love the exercise. I thank the DSNY for their speedy pick up!  More photos of the FALL!

This coming Thursday is Thanksgiving Day.  I hope you, my gentle readers, will find the time to give thanks for your life, your family, friends and neighbors.  As good or bad as you think life is at times, there are others who have nothing or much less than anything you can ever imagine.  Please remember those in your lives who are in need of companionship; maybe a phone call or a visit would make their day.  Holidays can be lonely.  If you can, invite someone to your home or volunteer to serve food at a community food kitchen.

Did you take a walk through one of our many parks on Staten Island or join Staten Island OutLOUD for one of their events or attend one of the many Christmas/holiday Fairs all across the Island?

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day and long weekend off.  Are you ready for the Holiday Stroll along the Forest Avenue Business Improvement District (BID) tomorrow, Thursday, 12/3 from 4-6 p.m.?  This is a terrific family event featuring the Forest Ave. strip from Hart Blvd. to Broadway!  Businesses set up tables outside their stores/offices, greeting the Strollers, sharing food, goodies, information and give-aways. You can have your picture taken with Santa, enjoy Christmas carolers and most importantly, meet friends and make new acquaintances along the way.  (Check out the cheek-to-cheek close-up of me and Santa from last year's Stroll!)

Don’t forget to stop by the patio at Burrito Bar and Restaurant to welcome our own Sgt. Bryan…

Spotted a few "lucky" turkeys outside of Staten Island University Hospital today.  They seem very happy roaming around the streets.

The Staten Island Chamber of Commerce unveiled a contest for shoppers in an effort to promote local businesses. The message is "shop small," meant to encourage residents to do their buying at area small business rather than big-name retailers. The contest will be running for one day, the Saturday after Thanksgiving and Black Friday, designated as "Small Business Saturday."

Participants can download print a 'passport' from the S.I. Chamber of Commerce website. Each time the holder shops from a participating small business on the island on Saturday the 29th, their passport will be stamped. Many of these businesses will be having special offers and giveaways as incentives. Shopping at eight of these participating locations on this day will gain the shopper…
