Love stories? Then, why not star in theatrical versions of timeless fairy tales and classic picture books. The fun begins with a story and an introduction to acting via classic theater games. You  will create simple costumes or puppets and literally act out the story--this month focusing on Jack and the Beanstalk. Reader’s Theatre takes place on Thursday from 3:30-4:30 at the St. George Library,  5 Central Ave. and is good for ages 5 & up.

For ages 4 & up, make a cute Thanksgiving Craft to celebrate the holiday on Thursday at 4 at the New Dorp Library, 309 New Dorp Ln.

On Friday, 11/9 at noon, St. John's University, Staten Island Campus, 300 Howard Ave. pays special tribute to our veterans.  Meet at the flagpole opposite the Kelleher Center. Reception/Rain Location: Kiernan Suite.  Light refreshments will be served following the ceremony for registered veterans and their families. You Are Here (Quilting for all Ages) is on Saturday from 1-2:30 at the Fort Wadsworth Visitor Center, 210 New York Ave.  Participants will assemble a simple cloth map of Staten Island–learn about the island’s geography, the Fort Wadsworth area and mark it with a stitch on their map. Sunday is Veteran’s Day.  The 2018 New York City Veterans Day Parade takes place on 11/11 from 11-3:30 beginning at Fifth Ave. and 26th St. and ending at 46th Street. This year will mark the centennial of the end of World War One, and honors the U.S. Army as the featured service branch.  This "Veterans Day USA" parade is the oldest and largest parade of its kind in the United States. The parade is produced by the United War Veterans Council, a non-profit organization dedicated to mobilizing public support for veterans, connecting veterans with resources, and assisting organizations serving veterans. The sole purpose of the NYC Veterans Day Parade is to honor the service of our veterans and to salute our currently serving military. The parade is preceded by the traditional Opening Ceremony next to Madison Square Park (24th Street & Fifth Avenue) at 10:00 and concludes with a wreath laying at the Eternal Light Monument at 11:00 (The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month).

The Rosary Altar Society of Holy Family will sponsor a Christmas Fair, featuring FREE admission, holiday shopping and raffles on Sunday, 11/11 from 9-3 at 366 Watchogue Rd. Lunch will be available for purchase.

Autism Speaks is pleased to partner with the Staten Island Mall, 2655 Richmond Ave. and World Wide Photography to present the 5th annual “Caring Santa” program for special needs families who can benefit from visiting Santa in a quiet and calm environment. Regular Santa visits will also be available after our “Caring Santa” program. Space is limited and reservations need to be secured in advance. Special moments will take place the following dates and times ONLY. Sunday, 11/11th and 11/18 and 12/2 and 12/9 from 10-11. Staten Island Seisiun returns for the 2018-19 season on Sunday 11/11 from 2-5 at Liberty Tavern, 382 Forest Ave. This is an informal afternoon gathering dedicated to the practice and enjoyment of Irish traditional music. If you know of or are living with someone who appears to have a substance abuse problem, come talk and listen at Parents and Family Substance Abuse Support Group on Monday from 7-8 at Christopher's Reason Recovery Center,  521 Arthur Kill Rd, 3rd floor. The goal of this group will be substance abuse education, referral sources, support family and friends.
