Does anyone else think that Mother Nature is a bit confused?  The crocus plants started to bloom in the front yard as the tulip greens popped through in the midst of the fallen leaves.  In the morning, birds awaken me tweeting so beautifully.  On a recent day, I heard the familiar sound of a blue jay.  I jumped up to see the jay atop the empty bird feeder and a squirrel on a branch above also vying for some munchies.  The geese were feeding in the grounds at Allison Pond Park in Randall Manor.  And the kiddies next door were shooting hoops in their back yard.  A sure sign of Spring!

Were you one of the donors at the Blood Drive in honor of Firefighter John G. Chipura at Our Lady Help of Christians last weekend?  Did you know you can donate blood and/or platelets at the New York Blood Center at any time of the year, at various locations and blood drives?  To donate, call 1-800-933-BLOOD or visit www.nybloodcenter.org  It is not difficult, it is not painful.  As a matter of fact, it is simple. The folks at the Staten Island New York Blood Center on 2791 Richmond Ave. (above the Verizon Wireless retail store) are wonderful.  They will put you at ease, put the TV on if you want, and in no time you have donated a pint of blood.  Snacks and refreshment are available afterwards.  Do not hesitate, donate! 

Did you attend Gene Wagner’s "State of the Art” Micro-exhibit at Hub 17, 73 Wave St.?  I visited Hub 17 on Sunday.  I enjoyed his art; some pieces made me happy, some sad. I recognized the late Fr. John Walsted, Gene’s “Beloved Art Teacher”

and particularly liked “A Bad Hair Day” (been there, done that!). I cannot stop gazing at the haunting portrait of the artist, Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Enjoy English Country Dance Class on Wednesday at 7 at Historic Richmond Town, 441 Clarke Ave.  All dances are taught so experience is not necessary and beginners are welcome. Come with a friend or come without a partner. You will benefit from the cardio without knowing that you've been exercising. On Sunday, 3/12 at 2, meet Farmer John Krueger at Christ Church, 76 Franklin to learn about Staten Island Community Supported Agriculture (SICSA). The purpose of the SICSA is to be the city group part of a community-supported-agriculture partnership with a local farmer. The mission is to support local agriculture, help preserve local farmland and to obtain fresh local produce for our members through purchasing shares of a farmers produce. The Staten Island CSA members will organize and share in the duties of the group to ensure the program runs smoothly. The Summer Youth Employment Program Applications are here.  SYEP provides NYC youth ages 14-24 with “paid” summer employment for up to six weeks in July and August. SYEP also provides workshops on job readiness, career exploration, financial literacy and opportunities to continue education and social growth.
