Do your kiddies enjoy Slime Making? Had never thought it was a “thing” until I made the rounds of Christmas/holiday fairs and noticed vendors selling all different kinds of slime. The Huguenot Library had a Slime Making session last week also so I guess I missed the boat (and I’m glad I did!) on this fad.

My grandchildren enjoy being read to, and I certainly enjoy reading books to them. Gerard, my first born grandson, while enjoying a sleepover at my house this past weekend with his sister, Adele, happened to share something with me.  He said he taught himself to read at 3 years of age but did not want his parents to know. WEEKEND EVENTS ON STATEN ISLAND (3/8 – 3/12/17)

Does anyone else think that Mother Nature is a bit confused?  The crocus plants started to bloom in the front yard as the tulip greens popped through in the midst of the fallen leaves.  In the morning, birds awaken me tweeting so beautifully.  On a recent day, I heard the familiar sound of a blue jay.  I jumped up to see the jay atop the empty bird feeder and a squirrel on a branch above also vying for some munchies.  The geese were feeding in the grounds at Allison Pond Park in Randall Manor.  And the kiddies next door were shooting hoops in their back yard.  A sure sign of Spring!

WEEKEND EVENTS ON STATEN ISLAND (3/2 – 3/6/16)

When I was a teenager working part-time after school at the New York Public Library as a PAGE, I would sometimes get lost in the volumes of books I returned to the shelves.  I was an avid reader as a kid and not a big history buff, but I would just eat up anything about the history of Staten Island and New York City. The books had wonderful pictures of Staten Island as a wilderness.  My Dad would walk us to Sailor’s Snug Harbor in our neighborhood--a home for retired merchant seamen.  There were cows, horses and other livestock grazing on the property along Henderson Ave. and great “old” buildings (which still exist) where the snugs lived.  We would listen to the sailors relate stories of their lives and travels and how they came to retire on Staten…

WEEKEND EVENTS ON STATEN ISLAND (9/17– 9/20/15)

Did you dispose of harmful household products at the DSNY SAFE Disposal Event?  I don’t know about you, my gentle readers, but I have the best intentions when I say I’m going to do Spring Cleaning.  I clean windows, curtains and the usual a few days at a time.  I become lackadaisical when Summer arrives and hang out in my garden.  I try to have a garage sale but visit other garage sales instead. When Fall arrives, I again promise to do major cleaning.  Yesterday, I began going through drawers, closets and discarding what I have not used or needed in many years.  It felt like a burden was lifted.  As a real estate broker, I see houses being sold every day where my clients are forced to deal with a lifetime of clothes, jewelry, furniture and unwanted…
