Did you try those ribs at the Sandy Ground Festival last Saturday?  Aren't they to die for?  Even though there were parking glitches at the Richmond County Ballpark on opening day last Friday, how about those Staten Island Yankees?  The menu has improved and lots of fun was had that night against the Brooklyn Cyclones.  Check out Boardwalk Days at South Beach every Sunday from 4-8.  Enjoying the cool breezes off the ocean, you will have a splendid time.

Sunday 6/28, from noon to 8 p.m., partake in the Polish Festival, sponsored by my home parish of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, New Brighton at Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden, 1000 Richmond Terr. This event is an undertaking of the Polish-American community in an effort to acquaint the Staten Island community with Polish culture, music, traditions, arts, and crafts. Traditional Polish food--Kielbasa, pierogi, golabki (stuffed cabbage), Polish baked goods and beer will be available for sale.  Raffles will be sold including a weekend in Warsaw, Poland, a flat screen TV, computer tablets, a bicycle, coffee maker plus tickets to a Broadway play of one's choice courtesy of the church.  Admission is $5 per person over 14 years old.  Hope to see you there!

Have you ever camped out?  Do you want to know what it’s like to camp out for the night?  My Mom was a Campfire Girl leader many years ago, and I helped her camp out with her troop underneath the Verrazano Bridge.  What fun we had connecting with nature!  The NYC Parks is sponsoring Family Camping Staten Island.  Camp dates and parks are 7/10 at High Rock, 7/18 at Blue Heron, 8/1 at Blue Heron, 8/8 at High Rock and 8/14 at Conference House.  The Urban Park Rangers will bring almost everything you need for a night spent alfresco, including the tent, dinner and even s'mores! The staff provides most of the equipment; all you need to pack are clothes, flashlights and sleeping bags. Next Tuesday, 6/30 at 7 p.m., the Metropolitan Opera will present a FREE outdoor concert at Clove Lake Park.  This concert is the perfect venue to leave your air-conditioned home for fresh air and an enjoyable evening.  Bring refreshments, family and/or friends for an unforgettable evening.  For more info, visit: MetOpera.org
