The 1920’s Themed Murder Mystery Dinner at the Second Annual Heart Fundraiser in memory of Robert Cognetta last Thursday was a success!  Did you get to walk the Red Carpet?  Did you figure out "WHODUNNIT"?  All proceeds go toward the SIUH Northwell Health Heart tower, specifically to the construction of the cardiac hybrid operating room for special procedures.  If you would like to make a donation to the Robert Cognetta SIUH Heart Fund, please visit http://www.robertcognettasiuhheartfund.com/ Below are some pictures from the event. 

An exhibit of Paper Tapestries by Sage Reynolds begins Wednesday, 11/9 during center hours at the J Gallery at Joan and Alan Bernikow Jewish Community Center, 1466 Manor Rd. An Artist's Reception will take place on 11/17 at 6:30.  It is FREE and open to the public. The Staten Island Multiple Myeloma Support Group meets Wednesday from 7-9 at the Jewish Community Center, 1466 Manor Rd.  The group provides knowledge and support to those struggling with this disease. "Micro Exhibitions", a four-day exhibit at Hub 17, 73 Wave St. begins Thursday from 12-7 and features Staten Island-born artist Mary-Antonia Lombardi (aka MAL) who is best known for her expressionistic figurative paintings. Attend the Film: Remember Kristallnacht on Thursday at noon at Jewish Community Center, 1466 Manor Rd. Elie Wiesel, a survivor from Sighet, a town from which thousands of Jews were deported to Auschwitz, returns, unknown and unseen, a silent witness to the town where he was born and grew up. On Thursday at 4, Staten Island OutLOUD will host a special program for very young readers, Paws & Read OutLOUD for Kidz at the Stapleton Library, 132 Canal St. Children ages 5-10 can practice their skills and have fun reading aloud to a gentle, licensed therapy dog. Veterans Day Remembrance Ceremonies will take place on Friday, 11/11 at 10:30 at Staten Island University Hospital North at 242 Mason Ave. (Fountain by the Heart Tower) and South at Seguine Ave. (Main Entrance). Veterans patients and staff join in raising flags of remembrance with ceremonies beginning at 10:30 a.m. at both campuses.  For info, call 718-226-1911.

Staten Island OutLOUD will collaborate with Gary Moore and the Little Victory Theatre, 4089 Victory Blvd. to host a spoken word performance inspired by Dashiell Hammett’s “The Maltese Falcon”.  After each performance, linger for conversation with cast and other audience members on “The Maltese Falcon”, mystery, and the one that got away. NYC Department of Administrative Services (DCAS) has released its examination schedule for November for a variety of positions, including Correction Officer, Environmental Police Office, Police Communications Technician, School Safety Agent, Special Officer and Traffic Enforcement Agent.  For information about registering for these and other tests, log on to the DCAS website http://www.nyc.gov/html/dcas/html/work/exam_monthly.shtml.

The NYC Department of Sanitation is looking for able-bodied Staten Islanders for snow and ice removal from bus stops, crosswalks, fire hydrants and other locations through the city.
