Boardwalk Days-Give Back Wednesdays begins today, Wednesday, 6/29 at 5 at the South Beach Dolphin Fountain at Fr. Capodanno Blvd and Sand Ln. Give-Back Wednesdays is a program where representatives of local non-profit organizations are invited to set up a table and share information about their services with the many visitors to South Beach each week. Some 25 agencies are slated to appear this summer, conducting demonstrations, offering giveaways, and speaking with visitors about how their particular organization might benefit a friend or family member. Summer Reading Kickoff takes place today at 2 at the Mariners Harbor Library, 206 South Ave. Join your friends to the Kick-Off which includes snacks, face painting and henna tattoos. Don't forget to stay for the magic show "Abracadabra" with Children’s Magician Evan Paquette at 3. As a special treat, after the 40-minute interactive magic show, Evan leads a short hands-on workshop for the kids to test their own magical abilities.
Read Aloud/ Picture Book Time for ages 3 and up is today at 4 at the New Dorp Library, 309 New Dorp Ln. Enjoy hearing books read aloud, finger plays, action rhymes and coloring.
Ocean Breeze Night Run begins tonight at 7:00 at the Midland Beach Boardwalk, Fr. Capodanno Blvd. at Jefferson Ave. Start and Finish at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Splash Plaza (parking located by Father Capodanno & Seaview Ave.). This scenic 2-mile course is designed for runners of all skill levels. The 88th Annual Huck Finn Fishing, tournament & Costume Contest will take place on Monday, 7/4 at 8:00 a.m. at Willowbrook Park, Eton Pl. The AE Zimmer Youth Conservation Program of Staten Island will once again be sponsoring our Huck Finn Fishing Tournament and Costume Contest for children ages 5 to 14. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and fishing will commence at 9. All bait and tackle will be supplied and all participants will receive a free bamboo fishing rod to keep. The Staten Island Philharmonic Concert & Fireworks will entertain on Monday from 6-11 at Alice Austen House Museum, 2 Hylan Blvd. They will perform "American Salute" at 6 p.m., followed by viewing of citywide fireworks displays.
On Monday at 11, join Staten Island OutLOUD for a community reading and conversation on the Declaration of Independence at the historic Conference House, 298 Satterlee St. (at the southern tip of Hylan Blvd. At the historic Fort Wadsworth at 2, join Staten Island OutLOUD to read and share ideas on the Declaration of Independence.
