Did you begin to visit Holiday/Christmas Fairs around Staten Island? See the list of Fairs for this weekend  below--there are always many to choose from.  I visited the fair at the Olivet Presbyterian Church on Saturday and filled bags with gifts, handmade crafts and of course, baked goods. There was a lot of dancing going on at the Free concert on Saturday night and so much singing along with the hits from the 50'2 and 60's.  Frank James, The Expressions and Vito Picone and the Elegants entertained the crowd at the Freedom Circle in Midland Beach until late into the evening.  The fireworks display was the topping on the cake.  I was fortunate enough to be in the first row!  (Recognize anyone in picture?)  How is that for royal treatment?  Did you volunteer at the Forest Restoration Workshop at the Egbertville Ravine on Saturday or join in the Stargazing at Great Kills Park?

Thanks to all our friends/customers/clients for stopping by at the Gillani Homes booth at “Back to the Beach” on Saturday and Sunday!  The bands played at both ends, there were many booths and many new attractions.  I had a blast making new friends.  One of my gentle readers and a friend, Susan, crossed off the Family Camping Staten Island from her bucket list.  She had a great time but was uncomfortable sleeping on rocks!  How did those cowboys do it on the range?  How do you “campers” keep comfortable in your sleeping bags?  Any hints would be appreciated. I accompanied my grandson to a special St. Patrick’s Day event at the Tottenville Branch of the New York Public Library on Tuesday.  Miss Amy, one of my grandson’s favorite librarians, read a number of books that featured “green” themes.  After reading, the children sang songs and then watched as Miss Amy turned a stuffed caterpillar into a beautiful butterfly.  Each child was given a chance to open the Velcro caterpillar and observe the transformation.  They were enchanted!  Afterwards, there were arts and crafts to color, decorate with glitter, cut out and bring home.  I always have a grand time watching the children and seeing their faces light up when they participate in reading and programs.

As I watch the last snow fall of the season from my home office (yes, this is the last, hopefully), I dream sweet, pleasant dreams of warmer days, my garden and how much fun I’ll have digging in the soil, planting vegetables, new plants and flowers.  Positive thinking always chases the doldrums away!

This Saturday, 3/7, a blood drive will be held from 9-3 at the gymnasium of Our Lady Help of Christians R.C. Church, 23 Summit St. in memory of Firefighter John G. Chipura, who died a hero on September 11, 2001.  I met “Chippy” on a real estate showing a few days before 9/11.  His buddy was interested in buying a commercial building and accompanied him for a second opinion.  He told me he had been a police officer at the 72nd Pct. in Brooklyn; after a few…

How many of you went to the first performance of the Historic Richmond Town Tavern Concert Series?  I can confirm that it was a delightful evening around the wood burning stove singing along with Bob Conroy, Norm Pederson and Bill Doerge.  You can join in on the fun this Saturday with “Stout”.
