The weather was brutal through the week and beyond, but we New Yorkers dealt with it, hopefully attending free concerts, movies, fun times at the New York Public Libraries, at Community Days or Sprinklerfest at Snug Harbor. I worked in my garden, weeded, cut down branches from dead trees and bushes. It’s hot anyway so why not be productive! I enjoyed the breezes on my porch and chatted with neighbors. What did you do?

The 116th Anniversary Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Society continued through last weekend.   It didn’t disappoint with games of chance, live music and yummy Italian food especially the smell of zeppoles that beckoned the crowds.  Make it a point to visit the National Landmarked shrine on the grounds at 243 Virginia Ave.  Visit: …

What a great week!  I soaked up the sun on Friday at Lighthouse Pointe in St. George where Broadway in the Boros entertained the crowds who showed up for a live performance by cast members of “Wicked” and “The Band’s Visit”.   There were ticket and t-shirt giveaways after the performances.  And FREE admittance to the National Lighthouse Museum.  Below are some photos from the event.

The 4th of July came and the humidity felt worse than ever.  People were complaining in the air conditioned mall and everywhere I went how humid it was outside!  What?!  I enjoyed the cool evening on my front porch and played Scrabble a number of times while chilling out. The Staten Island Philharmonic entertained at Alice Austen House on the 4th and at Willowbrook Park on the 7th.  The Borough President’s FREE Sunset Summer Concert Series at Midland Beach, featuring Brother Dynamite and The Resistance, was a great evening of entertainment with the cool sea air. Did you try kayaking with Kayak Staten Island at Conference House Park on Sunday? There are plenty of ways to stay cool without air conditioning. I actually worked on my garden a few late…
