The Salem Evangelical Church presented the Live Nativity this weekend—Friday, Saturday and Sunday, for the 10th year on the church’s front lawn at 634 Clove Rd.  To say this presentation was absolutely beautiful and touching is an understatement.  On Sunday night, as the snow lightly fell, the story of the birth of Christ was told as if it was happening in the present, with the three kings and visitors to the manger and the llamas, pony and donkey beside them.  I was moved to tears as the church choir sang Christmas carols. After the performance, the children pet the animals.  All were invited inside for homemade cookies and hot cocoa, a musical performance on stage and/or a visit to the worship center.  Another skit about the life of St. Nicholas was…

The Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony of the Staten Island Museum took place on Saturday. The Museum, situated in Building A, is grand with plenty of room to meander throughout the exhibits.  The Mastodon exhibit was a hit as well as the fossils on the first floor!  I loved the art, science and history exhibits.  The Autumn Moon Festival was entertaining with music performances, martial arts demos, dragons in the midst of the audience and a fashion show by the New York Chinese Qipao Association.

Were you able to see any of the fireworks displays in your neighborhood, at the Conference House, The Staten Island Yankees Game, Macy’s on 4th of July or listened to OutLoud reading of the Declaration of Independence?   Did you proudly fly The American flag?

There is still time to get in on Family Camping.  One of my gentle readers called me about the event, and I steered her in the right direction.  The NYC Parks is sponsoring Family Camping Staten Island.  Camp dates and parks are 7/10 at High Rock, 7/18 at Blue Heron, 8/1 at Blue Heron, 8/8 at High Rock and 8/14 at Conference House.  The Urban Park Rangers will bring almost everything you need for a night spent alfresco, including the tent, dinner and even s'mores! The staff provides most of the…

Last Saturday, my grandson and I planted a number of flowers in my garden.  He made a new friend (Mr. Worm) and got his hands dirty!  He’s definitely into nature, and for that, I am grateful.  The day after Easter Sunday, tulips, daffodils and crocuses emerged brightening up the garden and the front of my house.  Have you begun getting your hands dirty?  I hope your week was blessed, restful and, if you were able to hang out with your children on Spring break, enjoyable.

Before I go into the weekend events, I want to remind you that there are only a few more days till April 15!  If you haven’t done so yet, the New York Public Library in Staten Island is offering FREE tax preparation at the following branches:  Richmondtown--Tuesday from 11-3, St.…

How many of you attended the Pink Carpet Affair Girls Nite Out at the NYC Cypher Arts Building on Saturday?  Did you plan your Italian vegetable garden at Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden on Sunday?  Did you celebrate Fat Tuesday at a local pub or eat pancakes at one of the Staten Island churches on Shrove Tuesday?

I am happy to announce that Spring is on its way, and I look forward to saying “adios” to Winter.  I started my seedling garden in my windowsill with herbs to get a head start this year.  It’s good to get our minds off of boots, heavy coats, long johns and instead think tulips, crocuses (or croci) and warm weather.  How’s that for positive thinking?

Do you know a child between the ages of 5-12 who needs help with his/her…
